In March of this year, I had double bypass surgery. I am wondering how long you experience the discomfort of the sternum being so sore, and how long will it feel like liquid fire in my chest. Our area just went through a lot of muggy weather, and every day I felt like I had very little energy, trying to go for a walk made me sleep all afternoon. I know recovery is an ongoing process, but some days I feel like I haven't progressed very far. My walks are about 25 minutes long, but it is an effort some days to even get out. Ju st was wondering when my walks might feel enjoyable again.

Hello and welcome,

The info I have read from other members over the years indicates it can take up to 1 year for the sternum pain to heal and other patients have posted they had no pain at all right after surgery.  There seems to be a wide range when talking with patients re their healing.

I would put a call into your cardiologist and at least talk with the nurse to see if what you are experiencing is normal for you.

Blessings,
Kitt
