Hi everyone,
I have learned so much from reading all the posts concerning PFO closure that I decided to join the forum and ask for help.  My 29 year old daughter begin suffering from daily migraines with aura in June.  She had a brief episode of numbness and slurred speech which passed.  She had an MRI, CT scan and went to the ER six times and was admitted once.  She experienced vomiting, dizziness, double vision and other visual disturbances.  After six weeks of this she suffered from a brain stem and multiple cerebellar strokes.  She was diagnosed with a PFO two days later after all other tests ruled out any other cause of the strokes.  She did not have an aura in the six weeks and three days between her strokes and her PFO closure.  She has now had three auras since the procedure (Wednesday, September 1st) and she is scared that the whole thing is starting again.  I have read some posts that people have suffered from migraines after their closures but most people say they have been free of them.  Any advice you can give would help her (and me!) tremendously.  We are seeing her cardiologist on Thursday and will definitely ask him about it.
Thank you all!

Hello and welcome.  I have read that PFO closure was associated with reduction of Migraine symptoms in patients having Migraine both with and without aura. I have not red that everyone is cured of the migraines.
I hope someone else has more info for you.

Hi britishmumof5!
A couple of years has passed now and im really interested in what your cardiologist say about the recurring migraines after PFO closure as i am experiencing the same problem. I am 28 y.o and just had my PFO closure 9 days ago through catheterization using Amplatzer. Everything went fine and the doctor told me that the PFO has been completely closed now. After being discharged from the hospital, almost every single day for a week i had migraines. But they only lasted for 20-25 minutes i thought at first is because i was too tired from watching TV. Im also left with pretty big bruises and hematoma after the cath that hasnt healed up until now. So i have several things to worry about!
