My wife recently had a 95% carotid artery blockage in her neck removed. We went back for a 6 month checkup and it was 50% blocked. The Dr. ask my wife if she smoked, which embarassed my 77 yr. old wife, but nontheless he did not give us an explanation of why this artery would begin to clog up so quickly. Could it be an increase in her cholesterol? Thank you for your caring responses. You are a wonderful group, and I am so glad to have found this web site.
Stay well and blessed

Good Morning TTaylor,
I am sorry to hear about wife's problems.  ((((((((Hugs to her ))))))))).
Carotid angioplasty is often combined with the placement of a small metal coil called a stent in the clogged artery. The stent helps prop the artery open and decreases the chance of it narrowing again. Did your wife have a stent placed ?  If not I would discuss this with her Dr. and if you are not satisfied with this Cardiologist please do seek out a second opinion.
Keep us posted on how she is doing.
