Hello all,

I pretty much got home from hospital this afternoon with some bleeding from stomach, however that isn't the issue I am having at the moment.

Whilst in hospital I was put on a drip, forgot what the stuff was called, but it controlled the inflammation or bleeding or something like that, not quite sure.

Anyway, I had a pulse thingy on my finger and noticed when I was relaxed it was reading 47bpm and sometimes going back up to 60 bpm, is this because i only had a finger thing on and wasnt accurate?

Anyway I started checking it from my neck, when the machine stayed in the 40's it would beep and at 1 stage the nurse huffed and turned the beep off.

I am not athletic, I weigh 85 kg's and I have smoked for about 10 years and Im 26 years old with Ankylosing Spondilitis.

If there was a problem, the nurse would have caught onto it right? Also, could the stuff they had me on lowered my HR at all?

Should I seek medical advice about this or is it ok? surely the nurse would have picked up on it when it said "low pulse" so I assumed it just had something to do with the drip they had me on, didn't want to ask and look like a hypochondriac at the time.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks :)

I would assume that the nurses and Dr. were checking your pulse rate while you were in the hospital when doing their assessments    The monitor which is called a SAT monitor will take your pulse as well as your Oxygen Saturation Level.  Sometimes when our fingers are cold the machines do not registe accurately.

If your pulse rate was only 40 the Dr. would have addressed that with you.

To the best of my knowledge if you had bleeding ulcers that were severe your pulse would be fast not slow.

Remember I am ot a physician so do check with your Dr. if you have questions.

Kindly,
Kitt

I noticed my oxygen was sitting around 98 - 100, im guessing this is normal and probably a sign that nothing is wrong?
