Hello,

I am a 28 year old male, but for the last few years I've been suffering from a number of definitely or potentially heart-related issues. Firstly, I noticed that I have a very low heart rate - in the mid-high 40's bpm. I seem to get quite tired particularly when I sit down for a while, and I've noticed that this heart rate sometimes drops even lower, occasionally into the high 30s, and I start to feel particularly 'off'. I often get irregular heart beat at times like that, and also at some other times, which seems to consist in missed or half-beats, and lasts for perhaps 10-20 seconds, after which I sometimes feel light-headed or sick. I've been to the cardiologist several times as I think something is wrong with this, and they did some ECGs etc. They said that I have some hypertrophy, but other than that don't seem to think that there's anything seriously wrong. However, given the above, I'm not sure I agree with them.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

Cheers

Welcome to HealingWell.  I am glad you have seen a cardiologist re your sx and concerns.

Its obvious you are very concerned with this despite reassurance from your physician.  A second opinion feels like the best way to go.

Cardiac hypertrophy is a thickening of the heart muscle (myocardium) which results in a decrease in size of the chamber of the heart, including the left and right ventricles. A common cause of cardiac hypertrophy is high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart valve stenosis.

Make that appointment with a different Cardiologist and know I am thinking of you.

Kindly,

Kitt

Hello, I came across your post. My husband has had the irregular heart beat for a long time. He started feeling a "welling up" in his neck for months. I don't know how to explain it but he says it is like before you cry and you have feelings or sensations in your neck and he would get light headed and as it got worse, he felt like he would pass out. His heart rate would be high and his blood pressure would vary. Sometimes it would be very low and other times it would be a little high. Every time he went to the Dr. at the VA they could not find what was wrong. He started having more episodes lately and I got him another VA appt. He had an EKG, had already went thru the Holster test previously, and the EKG turned out fine that day. After we left, we ate lunch and he started having another attack..neck feeling funny and he felt like he was going to pass out. I was only a block away from the VA so I took him down there quickly and they took him back down to have another EKG. This time..because he was having an episode..it showed up what was wrong. The cardiologist had him taken to the Emergency room and he got admitted to ICU. He finally found out that he had Ventricular Tachycardia. His heart rate went up to 160 beats per minute. Funny the EKG the same day did not show problems..it was until he had an actual attack that they found it out.

I am telling you this because I was wondering how your heart rate was and if you had any symptoms like him? His heart skips beats....and he would stop breathing for around 8 seconds and start back up. You may want to check into the symptoms of the VT. Just want you to be well..hope it is not what my husband has.

God Bless! Cindy
