This is my first visit to the heart forum! I have been a member of healing well since the first of the year when my Mom was disgnosed with ulcerative colitis. I found very valuable info here and I am so appreciative of this means of communicatiing.

Sorry for the long intro! I am 53 and for the past few weeks have been having mild chest pain (on and off). It does not go into my neck or arm, nor do I feel short of breath. It really just runs across my boobs (from left to right)! It would not surprise me if I have some heartburn/GERD issues or even anxiety. My doctor has referred me to a cardiologist and I will be having a stress test done on the 29th. My PCP gave me some heartburn meds but I am still having the chest pain on and off.

Can anyone relate or have any words of wisdom? I only have an uncle on each side of my family with any cardiac issues. No immediate relative does. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Hello RTF,

Welcome to the forum and glad you joined us.  I have anxiety and I will get chest pain but I know that I have had a complete cardiac work-up and my chest pain is linked to my feelings of anxiety.  I also have GERD and the heartburn mimics cardiac chest pain but taking antacids usually relieves the pain and I know which foods I eat that trigger the heartburn. I know how concerning the chest pain can be.

It is good to know you are going to see a cardiologist.  Once coronary disease is truly ruled out the work-up can proceed at a more leisurely pace. Perhaps it is GERD, Anxiety or  musculoskeletal .  Again I am glad you posted here with us and please know we understand exactly how you feel.

Kindly,

Kitt

Thanks Kitt for your kind words and support. I am anxious awaiting the test and I am sure that is not helping. When I was in my 30's I had quite an ordeal with panic attacks. Fortunately, I no have them like I used to but can sometimes get anxious and knowing how I react when I panic, I can usually "talk myself out of having one"! I have not ever had chest pain when feeling panicky. I have had quite a stressful year between a sick elderly parent, other relatives having health issues and job stress. I know stress wreaks havoc on our health too and that could even be the cause. Thanks again for your reply. Vicki
