I Had a stroke 4 months ago,A few weeks before my 60th birthday. I seemed to be  recovring well. Diagnosed with AFIB.. A mild case of AFIB. Low heartrate ( 50-80  avg) and no rapid or fast heartbeat like some people here report..Trying to avoid Coumadin or Pradaxa to avoid a stroke, I should at least take aspirin. I have been reading quite a few artaicles and posts since I found this Website. Also eating a lot of natural foods to thin my blood..

Some folks claim aspirin upsets thier stomach.. After my storke The Hospital had me on 1 325mg aspriin daily. So far it doesnt seem to upset my stomach. although some days I feel really good I haved passed on the aspirin.  I always take 1 25mg metroprol daily.. I see some people here have swithched to the 80 mg dose of Aspirin.. I wonder if I should also swithch to maybe taking the 80mg dose 3 times a day which is a total of 240mg,   4 times a day would eqaul 320mg or one adult dose aspirin.. I assume that would assure the Aspirin was in my system  night and day.

When I was back to work a few weeks ago, I worked with a 52 year old man who I notifced him  taking at least 4 Aspirin during a 8 hour work day. I asked him if he had a problem, he didnt want to talk about it but says it dont affect him. Maybe the 2 or 3 packs of cigarettes he smokes daily coats his stomach..

Dirtman,

Please try to resist guessing  what you should take and stick with what your Dr. has recommended. I am concerned about your safety.

Treatment options depend on the cause of atrial fibrillation. Conservative options include medication and lifestyle changes. These treatments are prescribed to convert, or maintain normal sinus rhythm; control the heart rate; and prevent blood clots.

Try to work with your Dr. re medications and not get caught up in Googling as you will find much conflicting info on the net.

An old American proverb - "anyone who acts as his own doctor has a fool for a patient" .  I did this myself once and ended up in the ER.  blush Blessings,

Kitt
