Hi there.

I wonder if anyone can help. I am 33 year old female and I had a transcatheture ASD closure on the 2nd February. Ever since I have not been feeling well and I find that my abdomen feels very swollen and my breasts feel much larger. My stomach is quite uncomfortable when wearing clothes and I feel as though I can't hold myself in. I have found I feel more swollen in the evening and when I lie down in bed I get palpitations and have to get up and walk around the room for it to pass.

Has anyone else had an ASD closure and experienced anything like this? I am currently on 75mg of aspirin on it's own, I was taking this along with 75mg of clopidogrel but I have been advised to stop taking the clopidogrel and stick to the aspirin on it's own after suffering extensive bruising from the combination of medication.

I would be grateful for any assistance as I have yet to get back to my normal life and I dont feel I am getting much in the way of aftercare from my cardiac consultant.

Kind regards

Ash

Ash,

I do not have any personal experience with this procedure but I would strongly recommend that you push for an answer to your problems with the cardiologist as you have the right to know what is going on, if it is normal and why it is happening.

I see you don't feel you are getting the appropirate attention from your cardiac consultant. This is where my best advice to you is to "ask for what you need" and if it is medical attention then don't stop until you get it.

I wish you well and I hope another member will have some input for you.

Kindly,
Kitt

Hi, I am 34 female and had my ASD closed on 2/22/12.  I do not have those type of symptoms but I do have chest pressure and upper back pain (slight).  I would follow up with the cardiologist or your cardiovascular surgeon. I am giving myself more time to recover, it's only been a week for me. Feel better blush !

Thank you so much for responding to this member as nothing helps more than talking with someone that has gone through the same problems.  You are very kind.

Welcome to HealingWell.  I am sorry to read of your problems - do you know what your hemoglobin lab level is now ?  Are you on any medication - iron, B 12 shots etc ?  If you still do not feel well I would strongly suggest you make an appointment with your physician looking for other reasons for feeling so sick.

Kindly,

Hello there, i am a 34 year old woman and had my ASD closure in 26 march 2012. Since then i have gained about 1.5 to 2 stone in weight. I still go very dizzy, my ankles still swell and still get breathless just goin up the stairs. I go light headed and feel like i am goin to pass out. My breasts are also alot larger and fuller than they were before closure of asd. I also have the palpitations when lying down or relaxing. I have been back for check up, had a contrast echocardiogramme and an mri scan which i am awaiting the results. The doctors said i should feel much better almost amediatley after closure, but I still get most of the same symptoms and am so tired all the time. Glad i am not alone in this, was beginning to think it was all in my head. Will keep posted how i get on. Hope you are feeling better and if you have results please tell. x

I know how you feel, I was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension before the closer and they said that that should start to heal after they close the hole as that was the course of the PH. But everyone I have spoken to that has the same, most of them say the same , that their symptoms have not cleared or gone. I am not going to give up, there is clearly a problem that these devises are coursing, I also suffer with alot of migranes, which seems to be another new symptoms that alot of people are saying they are suffering with since closure. I really wish these doctors would stop reading what their books and notes say should happen and start listening to their patients. xx mad
