Hi all.
New to the forum.  My 11yr old son just had ASD Closure using the Catheter through the blood vessel.
His surgeon is saying 3-4 weeks till he can start playing club sports but his normal cardiologist is saying 3 months.
What have you heard from other cardiologists?
thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell,

From what I have read, children who have a repaired or closed ASD have no restrictions on their activity once their Dr. gives them the okay that all is well post-procedure/healing period. You have a wide time range from what your son's surgeon has recommended and what his cardiologist has said.

Is there another cardiologist at the clinic you could ask re how long before your son should resume his normal activities ?

Wish I had a better answer for you.

Kindly,
Kitt

Hi Kitt and thank you for the quick response. Both cardiologist and surgeon mentioned that he can resume normal activities after 2 weeks but no sports with contact up until 4 weeks (surgeon) or 3 months (cardiologist) I asked the cardiologist why his recovery time was so much longer than the surgeon and he said he was being conservative.

Just thought I'd inquire on this site to see if anyone has been told different.

thank you again.
