I took my best friend into the ER yesterday. She had been having pain since Tuesday and it finally became unbearable in the early evening. She is having classic heart symptoms: Pain under the breast, pain down the arm and in the jaw, nausea, confusion (not all the time - just when the pain is happening) and several other things. They admitted her even though all blood work, EKG, and chest x-ray were normal. They have given her Nitro (which lessened the pain, but did not take it away today, but it helped considerably last night) and she is wearing some cream (I am assuming Nitro as well). They have her on Dilaudid and it makes her loopy but helps the pain. She is getting the sweats with the pain, and her entire personality changes (as in confusion and not knowing words). They gave her a stress test and I am pretty sure they found something on it because they kept her another day and are sending in a cardiologist.

I will be honest. I am very concerned. She has heart problems in both sides of her family, with episodes happening before the age of 50 (she is 59). She lives alone (well, with her cat) and I don't want her to have an episode at her apartment and not tell anyone (I had to almost convince her to go in yesterday, but thankfully the pain did that). She is scared, and so am I. I want her to be okay.
UCTD (suspected Lupus) and probably Fibromyalgia.... still going through the tests and all that. Hypermobility is also a factor. Also have migraines, anxiety, depression, eye issues,...etc

Hi Sos,

I am helping Kitt out on the heart forum. It sounds like something is definately going on. I don't know a lot about heart issues. But I am sure that they have good reason to keep her an extra day. I hope that she will be fine. I am glad that she has you as a friend.

Try to remain calm around her to keep the energy mellow. Let her know that you care. Though I am sure she already knows it. There will be others on that know more about this than I do. I wonder if it is extreem anxiety? If nothing is showing up on the tests. Maybe a mini heart attack. I dont' know, I hate to guess at it.

I hope that your friend will be okay. Again, she is lucky to have you for a friend.

Hugs, Karen

I am sorry to read of your friends illness and I hope the Drs will soon have an answer to the cause of her symptoms.
Your friend is very lucky to have you in her life and I am sure you are lucky to have her - what are best friends for if not to care and yes, worry about each other when one is sick.  The best thing you can do is just be there for her and not let yourself become ill from stressing out about what is going on.
