With my friend in the hospital with a probable heart attack, I have been thinking about me. For the past month and a half, I have been having off and on chest pain. Starting two weeks ago, I started having the pain in my chest and it moved down my arm and my jaw hurt so much I could hardly open it. I decided to call the doctor in the morning (although the nurse advice line said to go in to the ER within 4 hours). I woke up sometime around 6 feeling like I was going to throw up. I took a zofran, but I think I ended up passing out (the doctors do not know - they say that I could have had a seizure because I went incontinent). I woke up leaning over the tub. I was in the bathroom (the last I remembered), but I was not at the tub, so I don't know how I got there. I eventually managed to make it to my bed (I crawled) and called my friend who took me to the hospital. They did an EKG, but it was the typical EKG that I have been having the past couple months. It had slightly inverted T-waves and I think she said they were flattening slightly. All blood work that is ever done has come back normal. When I was in the ER two weeks ago because of the blacking out, I did have a very elevated white blood count. It was 16k. That was the only thing to ever come back abnormal with my blood.
I guess I am wondering if I should ask my PCP for a referral to a cardiologist. I have been told that this is not cardiac related (I have had two echos, a nuclear stress test and several EKGs), but the symptoms of one are there. Right now, the doctors do not know what is going on, and I would rather not have to see yet another specialist (I am seeing a rheumatologist, neurologist, two ENTs, a dermatologist, two ophthalmologists and my PCP), but I will if it is necessary. I am most likely going to bring it up with my doctor on Monday, but I wanted other opinions as well.
