My heart tests are scheduled for tomorrow morning.

When I was in ER last week because of vomiting, diarrhea, and shortness of breath (I have blood clots on my lungs).....they took some heart tests. Guess it is called an ECG.

On the report I have here, it says "Abnormal ECG", possible lateral infarct, age undetermined.

Does anyone know what that means?

I will answer yourquestion here but I would also like to know how you made out today?

Please remember that I am not a Dr. - "Abnormal ECG", possible lateral infarct, age undetermined."

It appears that you ECG of your heart had some noted abnormalities picked up by the Dr. who interpreted you test.  This Dr. feels your ECG may indicate you had a heart attack at some time in the past but he can not determine how long ago or definitely state that you absolutely had a heart attack.

It is not all that unusual for someones ECG to show a possible old heart attack - in fact our own ER Dr. had this very same thing happen when we ran his ECG prior to a minor surgical procedure.  He had never been hospitalized for sx of a heart attack.

Again remember I am not a Dr.

Kindly,
Kitt

Hi Kitt and thank you for this reply to my post. I had the tests this morning. I did 12 minutes on the treadmill and I had an ultra sound of my heart. It was called a dobbler or something so I didn't realize it was just an ultra sound.

They don't give a person the results, they send them to the family doctor and I go there on the 15th for my results. I had that date already set; otherwise I could have gotten a sooner one. If it is important he will call me and make a sooner appointment.

If I did have a previous heart attack I know when it was. After my colon cancer 3 years ago, my son was frantic because they couldn't wake me up. It took 5 hours to get me conscious and they had no explanation for him He was pretty upset. I never had any troubles before that operation, that was the start of all my troubles, hernias, broken arm, pulmonary embolism....everything happened after that and I went down hill and became very depressed in the last year.

I will be happy to know the results. I hate being in the dark and I don't think the doctors should keep things from us. That surgeon really avoided my son after that cancer operation and he was very evasive with everything he said. My son took an instant dislike to him.

The last 3 hernia operations were a result of that operation as the stitches let go, the first one strangled, the second one burst and they had to pack it as they could not stop the bleeding as I am on coumadin and it was an emergency one, the third operation on Oct. 15th seems to be a success, but I have a lot of scar tissue and I have heard horror stories about what that can do also, and I worry, but I must learn to put it out of my mind.

Thanks again Kitt.

I have not had heart problems but I did have colon cancer surgery on August 16th this year and post-op I went into respiratory failure and had to be on a ventilator for 36 hours.  I was even transferred uptown via ambulance to one of our big city hopsitals that has a Respiratory Intensive Care.  I was astounded to realize this had happened to me and after I came home from the hospital I was afraid to go to bed at night and sleep.

It is amazing all the things that happen to us in our lives that we just never dream would happen to us.

I have been dealing with anxiety and depression for 30 years so whenever I get hit with a big surprise I have to fight really hard not to let myself slip back into the danger zone of anxiety and depression as it is very dark and lonely when you are feeling depressed.

I suspect your tests will be OK and I will be waiting to read your results when you have them.

I will keep you in my prayers.
Kindly,
Kitt

Thank you for keeping me in your prayers Kitt. I believe in the Power of Prayer and I appreciate that. I am sorry to hear you also had cancer. If I did have a heart attack, I believe I had it on that surgery for my cancer because my son was frantic as it took them 5 hours to wake me up. That is probably how I got the blood clots too and ended up with Pulmonary Embolism.

I get my test results on the 15th as that is when my scheduled appt with the Dr is, unless it is urgent, then he will call me in sooner.
