Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the following issue?

Every now and then (can come and go) I have this feeling in the center of my chest, it feels like my heart physically moves, or it feels like how your stomach feels when you drop from a height. They are not painful and are not accompanied by any other symptoms.

Some times they come regularly and other times they seem to have stopped only to reappera again at another time. As with many other posts in this forum, I suffer from extreme health-related anxiety and I currently take 100mg Zoloft. I am still really anxious all the time worrying about my health, my wife's, my two boys and and my mother - who is actually very sick with lung disease.

These feelings in my chest have been present for about 8 weeks. I am off to my doctor next week but any advice would or suggestions would be fantastic.

Thanks,

Jamie

Hey snakebit, I quess you haven't been diagnosed with a heart disorder? There are several things I would consider before saying it's heart related. One is do you have a family history of Heart Disease? Are you overweight, have high blood pressure or on medications long term (other than Zoloft)?

I spent many years working in mental health so I understand your health related anxiety. Not to mention personally experiencing it myself after I became diagnosed with MS. Odd how people who are chronically ill have that anxiety issue. Now I also have extensive heart problems with an Pacemaker implant. A few months ago I started having horrible chest pain, burning, I could swear I felt my heart beating way fast, or irregular. I was freaking myself out bad even though all my tests were not showing a reason or cause for it.  Then my PCP thought perhaps it was stomach related like acid reflux but extreme. I've taken multiple medications for years as well as antidepressants. He put me on Zofram and when I feel this I take one and it helps greatly.

I believe you have to consider all possible factors and hope for the best. Of course no one wants or expects to have heart problems but bottom line is....if you don't feel right then most likely something is wrong. We are always here for suggestions, support or anything at all.
I wish you much luck

Jamie,

Hi, this is Kitt.  I'm sorry that your anxiety is so bad and really affecting you in a negative way.

Those of us with anxiety are prone to worry, and one of the most consistent worries is the idea that we may have a heart health problem. Because the heart is the key to life, people  with anxiety often focus on the way their heart feels and convince themselves that they have a heart health issue whenever they start experiencing any symptoms that resemble what you might expect from heart disease.

You will need to come to terms with your health  anxiety, and not a heart problem. But you should also never leave your heart issues up to chance. Always visit a doctor and get clearance about your heart's health before moving forward, because even if the chest pressure is from anxiety, it's important to know how healthy your heart is. I was pleased to read you have an appointment with your Dr.

But once heart problems hopefully have been ruled out, you need to make sure that you understand that anxiety genuinely does cause chest pressure and even chest pain.

Take this one step at a time and see what shows up on your medical screening exam.  If all checks out well then do talk with your Dr. re the best choice for you in learning how to deal with Health Anxiety.

We have a great Anxiety/Panic Forum and the members of that forum are quite wise and wonderful.  We would love to have you join us there.

Blessings,

Kitt

Thank you very much for your responses and care. It is very reassuring to know people out there are willing to help.

I will take your advice and do my best to tackle this and hopefully resolve it over the coming weeks.

Thanks again, I really do appreciate it!
