I have been diagnosed with this condition. The doctor didn't seem alarmed. Does anyone know anything about this or have experience with it. Tell me what you can, please.

Hi and Welcome to HealingWell, fair skies! tongue

"PVC's, (premature ventricular contractions), are a type of early or extra heartbeat (extrasystole) that occurs when the heart's ventricles contract too soon, out of sequence with the normal heartbeat."
I've been diagnosed with them, too.  They are usually a benign condition that cause no problems...so if your Dr. has indicated this, I wouldn't worry.  I've noticed that mine tend to go in streaks...sometimes stress brings them on, too.  Mainly it's just scary when you don't know what they are! yeah

Let me know if this has helped you!
Hugs, Teri tongue

Here is another site that I've used before that talks about PVC's.

Hi "Fair skies". PVCs (premature Ventricular Contractions)--are very common & as Teri correctly stated--are benign. Only cause for concern is when they happen frequently or in prlonged clusters. Really, trust me--you have nothing to be concerned about. Many, many people get them----also called "extrasystoles". Hope i've helped. Kindest regards---Robert (Wotan)

confused  hello all! I thought I was the only one who had these off beats. I wonder why my cardo would almost laugh at me when I asked him for a pacemaker for the irregular beats. He would tell me that my skipped beats are very common and not to worry, well 20 yrs ago they didnt bother me as much but now when I am in my 50s I can feel them more.  some times there are a skipped beat and sometimes they are like a mummer. Every now and then I really can feel the skipped beat in my throat and it kind of hurts for a split second. eyes   They can really be scarry  its like is my heart gonna stop for good? and when I bend over or lay down at nite that when i get them. I have a low thyroid so my heart beats in the 60s and lower sometimes. My pcp said that your heart beats irregular if your beats are too slow. well I am not glad anyone else has to have these beats but I am glad I am not alone. yeah I think I am worried about blood clots . thankyou pat

Hi Pat and Welcome to the Cardio Forum!! tongue

Yes, these PVC's can cause alarm when you don't know what they are - that's for sure!  When mine started it was after I'd had a silent heart attack and I just knew I was having another one! yeah My Dr. told me it was nothing to worry about as well - but I did anyway! lol  So when I was in the hospital in a cardiac unit, I asked one of the cardiac nurses and she explained it so that I understood better - thank goodness. tongue

That's why I put the links in above and I hope you get a chance to look at them! - you are not alone!

It was nice to meet you, Pat!  Stop back by anytime!

Hugs, Teri tongue

tongue  Thanks Teri, You cant hear it enough not to worry about the skipped beats. I really dont know what mine are confused If I was told Its been so long ago I forgot. My cardo says that I should worry when I dont feel them, thats when you are in heart failure. I have a bad back so I always have pain and sometimes it scares me when i think it is comning from my heart. And if thats not enough I just started haveing stomach trouble so that makes it hard to tell where the pain is comning from.oh yes I was a smoker for years so I have copd . sad   It seems that when one thing stops hurting then something else starts up. Sorry for feeling sorry for myself nono    know there are people who hurt more then I do and I hope they can get better!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the help. Sorry about your heart attack I hope you are allright yeah    Pat.

Hey Pat! tongue

I'm doing okay and that's what we're here for - nothing is ever too trivial when it concerns our health, especially when you already have heart disease!

You take care.

By the way (btw), Pat, if you haven't been diagnosed with PVC's and it's something else, it can be more serious! So just make sure your Dr. knows about these.

Teri :)

Hi Teri, I once had a new cardo at a hospital for a second oppion (I cant spell good sorry) and she said that the skipped beats are coming from the bottom of my heart gets the message too slow from the top sometimes to beat. Something like that.
I have had this problem for 20 yrs or more ever since I went in for a opperation and I had a bad reaction to what they used to put me to sleep. What I need to know is when is it too many bad beats. I usally have at least one an hour on my bad day. Then some days I have none .Can anyone tell me how many is too many?. Thanks Pat

Hi Pat! tongue

I'm afraid I really can't answer this question for you.  Not being a Dr. myself, and not knowing what exactly is all going on with your heart.  My suggestion would be to talk to your Dr. and reask them for more of an explanation.

Best wishes to you!

WOW did that send me to the ER. I have a low thyroid and I hear that ,that can make you have slow & irregular heart beats? yeah You know it helps to take a little info from this person etc and put their experances with yours and maybe we can find answers to our questions tongue well untill later thanks!!!!!!!  Pat.

Hi Pat
Like Teri hope you are haveing a relaxing Sat. Ok I have have hypothyroidism and also Hashimotos thyroiditis they auto immune kind where your thyroid  atacks the thyroid itself.  First have yuo have a  thyroid test to see if it is low with yur TSh level, tsh 4 and tsh 3 and your tigers checked out too.
For if you are on medicine yuor endocringologist should be testing yur thyroid every 6 months to make sure it is staying level and not to high or to low. either way affects our heart disease and makes it worse. I have had 2 heart attacks and have CHF and anginia too.  Now back to thyroid watch the foods you eat too the goitrogennic foods. broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, any greens and then
donot take antacids containing aluminum and magnesium types nothing with iron in it till after 30  min of takeing yur medicine.
I myself was told take my synthroid on an empty stomach and nothing for 15-30 min then rest of my meds too. NOw for yuor heart beats and PV's if your pulse and  breathing and heart rate is rapid yuo are probably HYPER not HYPO for HYPO is low and HYPER Is high.   and please ask yuor PCP todo a complete thyroid panel and if yuo are on medicine take it same time each day and on an eempty stomach and  be careful for either type that is not well controlled  affects all our body organs and our heart too. It can send me into CHF  faster so i se my endocringolosit every  6 months Pat. Best of luck I am here if you ned to ask thyroid questions like i said I am 49 and have had it since age 12 .

Hi Heidi, No they are still full of catchup, so I have to hit them a couple of times. I cant blame him though I spill everything I get my hands on.You know people dont believe that you can have a whole lot of different things going wrong with your body at the same time. I ve had Drs tell me that Its just in your head(I WISHED).  Thats why I love this place we all believe each other and we listen. yeah Sorry I got off track. My best time to write is after 11 pm thats when the little ones are in bed and I have some peace & quiet. But I dont mean to complain I am still alive and thats what counts. eyes I just had my thyroid checked the first of this month when I went to see my cardo, I dont have a pcp yet mine quit& the dr at the clinic is ok but not an expert in anything all she does is give you refurals to see someone else. So I let my cardo do the blood work. He is pretty smart. I am one of those people who it took me a long time to find the right synthroid level I take 0.88 anything over that and wow I am back in e.r. feeling like everything is raceing in me. sad Hey we got a new forum the thyroid one . Well running out of room  Ill try later Pat.
