"Women's Health Study Finds Vitamin E Does Not Protect Women from Heart Attack, Stoke, or Cancer

Vitamin E supplements do not protect healthy women against heart attacks and stroke, according to new results from the Women’s Health Study, a long-term clinical trial of the effect of vitamin E and aspirin on both the prevention of cardiovascular disease and of cancer."

The Women’s Health Study was conducted between 1992 and 2004."

How Much Vitamin E Do We Need?

"A recent scientific analysis raised questions about whether high doses of vitamin E supplements might increase the risk of dying.(28) The authors gathered and re-analyzed data from 19 clinical trials of vitamin E, including the GISSI and HOPE studies; they found a higher rate of death in trials where patients consumed more than 400 IU of supplements per day.  While the data are sparse and conflicting, evidence from some observational studies suggests that at least 400 IU of vitamin E per day, and possibly more, are needed for optimal health."

I hope this gives everyone some 'food' for thought and Please add your ideas and opinions here!

I take a multivitamin and I make sure that it doesn't contain any more than 400 IU's of Vitamin E.  I always have.  Back in my nutritional class in 1976-77, it was what seemed to be recommended then, so I've sort of just 'stuck' with it...  yeah

In an ideal world, we would be getting all the vitamins that we need solely from our diets each day, however that isn't always possible with today's fast life style.  So be careful what and how much you are taking when it comes to Vitamins and Minerals, as more isn't always better!

I am still SOB when I walk  have minor cp now and again see my pcp next Tuesday- my cardio in Sept  unless the need becomes urgent before then!
