The Facts about ISH (this comes from Heart Health). Blood pressure is recorded as two numbers — systolic  (as the heart beats) over the diastolic (as the heart relaxes between beats). Systolic high blood pressure is the most common form of high bp for older Americans. When that happens, the condition is called "isolated systolic hypertension," or ISH .

Any form of high blood pressure is dangerous if not treated. If left uncontrolled, it can lead to stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure, kidney damage, blindness, or other conditions. While it cannot be cured once it has developed, ISH can be controlled.

Treatment options for ISH are the same as for other types of high bp, where both systolic and diastolic pressures are high. ISH is treated with lifestyle changes, medication, or both. The key for any high blood pressure treatment is to bring the condition under control. Blood pressure should be controlled to less than 140/90. If yours is not, ask your doctor why.

Thanks Kathy! :)

I have always had a sort of low BP even when younger, but I've noticed of late since being taken off of my ACE inhibitor and the Calcium Channel Blocker that my systolic has risen - at last check it was 138/54...prior to that 90/60 was an average.

Hugs, Teri :)

" Blood pressure should be controlled to less than 140/90". I thought that was higher than what I heard or read last about the top range for bp. What do you think?

I think this may have been posted before, but since we're discussing this now... tongue   Hugs, Teri
