Diets and heart disease is a good thread but lets remember this

1. Talk to your doctor about you wanting to lose weight.

2. Remember not all diets are good.

3.Each one of us have diferent  health problems and one diet might be good for one person and be bad for another person.

4. Eat healthy foods

5. Learn to read food labels

6. Eat Healthy Foods

7. Get some type of exercise daily even if it is just house work.

me for example I have lost from 188 to 145 and need to weigh 130-135 but I am on a low fat, lowcholesterol low sodium diet no pork products at all, nothing white, I stay away from trans fats, Make my own bread in a bread maker and also make my own chicken, beef, veggie broths.I tend to get some exercise.

But lets all give our tips and remember  to check with the doctor before starting any type of diet or changes in our eating plan. I will also bring back up the recipie thread so libby can post her recipies and  anyone else who wants to do  post.

okay, everyone. what heidi said is exactly right of course - what works for one doesn't always work for the other. but i'll start my contribution to this thread by talking about oat BRAN, not oat meal.

i lowered my cholesterol ONE HUNDRED points in one month SOLEY eating an oat bran muffin every single day. and they're tasty. so even though we can all be on statins, if you'd like an additional help to the ole ticker to keep things flowing more nicely, i have 2-3 recipes of oatbran that you all can try. one is for banana nut muffins, the other is oat meal cookies! i love them. darren hates them. he says he hates the grit of oat bran, but honestly, i don't even truly notice that. let me know if you'd like me to post them here. and the nice thing is, they can both be made in about 10 -20 minutes.

Libby - that is fantastic about the oat bran muffins taking 100 points off your cholesterol - please do post the recipe. Heidi, those were all good points that you made, but - I would say that foods that even have labels to read (which would be processed foods) are not the best foods for us to eat. nono I really can't eat anything that comes in a box, can or jar. Those things are loaded with salt and preservatives and who knows what else, so I stay completely out of the center aisles at the store and just buy fresh meats (fish & chicken) and fresh fruits and veg's. and dairy (alot of yogurt).
I make fantastic coffee tongue but I'm a terrible cook, and I would love to have some recipes and some other ways of flavoring food without salt.
