Gender: male
Age: 20
Weight: 245
Height: 5'11
Condition: sharp chest pains on left side
Smokes: no
Drinks: no
Drugs: marijuana

General symptoms:
-Sharp stabbing pain in left side of chest but closer to the center of my chest
-sometimes pain in arms and shoulder
-occasional neck pain
-nervousness/anxeity

This all started about 5 months ago, I was sitting with friends at my home and suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my chest, I had just had a big meal and I thought that was it but the pains continued, I had everyone leave except my girlfriend, the pains increased over that night, I went to the ER around 1am. They ran blood test and ekgs and everything came back normal. I wasn’t having a heart attack, but they kept me there for 2 days and the pain continued. They did a sonogram of my heart and chest x-rays, everything came back fine, they released me but never told me what was causing the sharp pains in my chest, the pain continues for the next 4 months, I went to my family doctor who is a specialist in heart disease o and has me do a stress test and ekgs, everything comes back normal, but I'm still having chest pains. He suggested it might be GERD or an ulcer, but since I have no health insurance I have no way of finding that out. I started buying every over the counter acid reflux medicine I could find, (Tums, Zantacs prlsact OTC, I even bought a blood pressure monitor to record my BP but its never gone higher then 120/80) but it seemed nothing was helping, the pain was still there. I began to develop anxiety and convincing myself I'm going to die. One night I was woken up by my chest pounding and a cold sweat, I thought I was having a full fledge heart attack so I had my mom rush me to the ER again, they ran the same tests but still no signs of anything heart related, and the doctor told me I had a anxiety attack. At that point I had told myself that all these pains where in my head, and I was fine, the pain was there but I just kept saying its all in my head, until a couple of days ago when the pain suddenly came back. It was late at night and my heart started to race, I took my blood pressure it was fine but my pulse was around 110, I got freaked out and went to bed, I couldn’t really sleep and kept waking up checking my blood pressure, still it was fine… I got up and went to work (I'm a short order cook at a busy golf resort) , I remember reaching for something and getting the sharp pain again. It feels like someone is stabbing me in my chest, its quick, and the sharpness goes away, but the pain is back, for the next couple of days I continued to have the pain, until the past Friday. I was working I had a bunch of orders in front of me and I go to reach for my knife and I get the pain again, but this time it makes me keel over, I cant take it, it's so intense, I rush out of the restaurant and find a place outside I can sit down and breath, the pain is so intense I pause and don’t take a breath till it goes away, the pain lessens and I can feel the sharpness go away, my boss (who is also my aunt) sees this happens to me and throws me in her car and go to the ER (again!) We are there for 3 hours waiting for the doctor to see us, I calm down and the pain practically goes away, he tells me that it doesn’t seem to do with my heart or anything and doesn’t give me any tests, just tells me to take ibuprofen 3 times a day for 3 days, but that was 3 days ago and the pain is still here… PLEASE somebody tell me what's wrong with me!!! Could this be angina or heart disease (which I would hope would come up on EKG and stress test), could it be acid reflux or Gerd? Could this all be related to stress?

Hello..I won`t attempt to tell you what`s actually wrong with you as I`d just be guessing..But I have had similar experiences twice in my life..The first was when I was in my late 20`s..I`d get those pains in my chest also and I had a stress test etc done and it was determined it was stress related angina...Here`s a link to a nice website that has a lot of info on angina:

Hi Clash and Welcome to HealingWell!! tongue

First let me state that I am not a Dr. and these forums are not used for diagnosing anyone.  We're here to offer support, ideas from our own personal history and a listening ear for you to have somewhere to go to have someone to talk to. yeah

I've been there with anxiety attacks, I have angina and have had a Heart Attack and I also have GERD.  From what you've indicated, you seem to be healthy, no heart damage has shown up on your tests thus far...I don't know what or where the pain is coming from, but I would very strongly suggest that you see your Dr. again and ask him for a barium swallow test.  It's not as intensive as an upper GI, yet shows several things that they need to see to diagnose hiatal hernias, GERD, and reflux.  That test could perhaps rule out things, or tell them what is actually happening.

I hope I've been of some help to you and I certainly want to wish you all the very best!!  I have a 31 yr. old son and a 17 yr. old daughter, and I wouldn't want them to have to worry so much about this happening - good luck!!

Hugs, Teri tongue

Yes that is possible..Even with a large frame size (Big boned) at 5-11 and 245 you are at least 65 pounds over weight..If you are small-medium framed it`s worse...The "stress" test your doctor gave you measures physical stress on your heart..The type of stress that leads to some angina is emotional stress..But it is also possible as Teri said that it could be other not heart related problems so don`t get to anxious and try and relax..I`d go and see another doctor as soon as you are able...After my heart attack last year I had the same types of pain you describe..A sudden sharp stabbing pain right over my heart area and once that went away a dull lingering ache that lasted hours or the whole day..All the test showed nothing heart related..They were of the opinion that a muscle near my heart was pulled when I was shocked during cardiac arrest and sometimes that would get aggrevated by something<!-- Edit -->

Hi Clash! tongue

I don't know what state you live in, but each state has different ways in which to help people.  Are you working now?  If not, are you in school full time?

Try doing a search on the state you live in and insurance to see if there is something there that can help you!

My best wishes to you!

Hugs, Teri  tongue

I wanted to also say that if this pain continues like this, you should head for an ER - since no one seems to know what the cause is, I wouldn't want you taking any chances!!

Please keep us updated, Clash!!  Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Hey,

I read your old post and have had similar symptoms to you for a while now as well. I am 30 and am also a big guy 6'8 265 pounds. I am not sure if you are still having the same issues, but I noticed that youare a pretty big guy at 245 (not that I am judging obviously I am big too) but I think losing weight would probably help you a lot. I used to weigh around 295 and lost 30 pounds and it really helped my overall health and self image. I think you would be pleasantly surprised at how much better you might feel if you could get the weight off because you will only gain weight as you get older so it is best to try and lose it now if you can. Having dealt wight anxiety a lot of it is biological and if you can improve your overall health I think you will feel better. Try getting down to maybe 225/220 to start. Hope you an get over this. Take care.

Hey i think i can help you clash. There is a homeopathis remedy to help anxiety sufferers and it helped me alot with my ache i think it could help you to and its very safe to use. The product is called Ignatia and you need to buy 'Ignatia 1m' which you take at the beginning then you take the 'Ignatia 12c' Do some research and maybe have a go.. but i think you could find it helps and i hope it does too. Good luck.
