I encourage everyone to give as much as you can to help the refugees from the Hurricane Katrina disaster in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and elsewhere.  This is the largest natural disaster to ever strike the United States and it looks like help will be needed for a long time to come.  If we all pull together and give, we can make a difference in people's lives.

Below are some suggested relief funds and charities:

American Red Cross (1-800-HELP-NOW)

United Way (1-800-272-4630)

The Salvation Army (1-800-SAL-ARMY)

Operation Blessing (1-800-436-6348)

America's Second Harvest (1-800-344-8070)

For more ways on how you can help, see the following FEMA web site:

I have like many others been watching all the news of the devastation that Katrina has left behind.  This is just awful - the conditions that the people have endured!  They have lost everything except what they could carry in a bag!  Many, many of them have lost their loved ones!! Many will never recover their photos, or their personal items ever again.  They will have to start completely over.

Emotionally this is overwhelming for many of them, most will have to find new jobs and places to live, along with furniture, medications and all the rest.

Can you imagine being in this same situation?! I've actually had to turn the channel at times because it has been so heartwrenching.

If all of us give just a little we would be giving a lot!!

With Love, Teri

Heidi, you do so much good work with your volunteerism. I'm glad there are good people like yourself who are helping out the thousands of people who have been devestated by Katrina. Texas is one awesome state! I did hear that my state's governor sent out National Guard troops to the stricken area, and even though I'm not real thrilled with her on some things, I'm proud that she did this. I've had a hard time turning off the news this week, both literally and then when I go to bed. I'm glued to it and have not been online too much.
Happy Grandmommy to Amanda, Alayna, Wyatt and Ezekiel
