On november 26 2014 I will have Dr Svensson repair my ascending aneurysm at the cleveland clinic. Everything happened super fast until few weeks ago I only thought I had a 3.9 enlargement, after being very insistent with the cardiologist (now dropped) I was sent for a CT that showed 5.2!! I couldn't believe it, I kept on reading that number in disbelief, but it really said 5.2 cm. After consulting with a surgeon here I decided to go to Cleveland and I'm now scheduled for surgery in about 3 weeks. I'm shocked and especially scared. The days go by and if I don't think about it for an hour or so it comes to mind and it is absolutely surreal, I can't believe it is actually going to happen to me.
I would like to get all the help I can get, in terms of suggestions from you guys. I'm 48, 5'8", 230 lb. The doctor will probably try to save my valve since it is tricuspid and has only a minor regurgitation.
I'm absolutely scared of death, complications, strokes, pain. I do so bad with pain that last night I cut my finger while slicing tomatoes and it was like the end of the world. And then I realized: I'm going in for a major complicated heart surgery....almost funny.
Please let me know if anybody can give me help and suggestions. Also really important: I need to find a knowledgeable cardiologist here in Las Vegas to follow up with me after the surgery, any idea? Or how would you go about finding somebody good? The two cardiologist I've been dealing with until today are useless for two different reasons. One was OK knowledgeable but unconsidered and didn't want to investigate what it revealed to be a huge problem. The other one is very comforting and present but has no knowledge whatsoever. The kind of guy I'd like to have a beer with, but not trusting him with my heart.
thank you so much

Hello Marco,

Sounds like a very bad surprise--hope you found a great surgeon for follow-up.

Take care,

hi marco. the pain of surgery does pass. chest stuff re-knitting. check with the cardiologist association in your area. take care.

my conditions are mere aspects of me, they do not define me.
