Coreg aka Carvedilol

I thought I'd add this thread tonight as this is one of my newest med.'s and I know there are plenty of others out there that are on this Beta Blocker.

Coreg is used to treat high blood pressure, sometimes it's used to treat a recent heart attack, or Heart Failure.

I'm starting a baby dose tonight to treat Heart Failure, as I've tended in the past to run very low Blood Pressures, they were afraid that too high of a dosage would be a problem.  The general dosage for Heart Failure patients is 25 mg. twice per day.  I'm going to start with a 3.125 mg, divided in half.  Taking 1/2 in the AM and 1/2 in the PM. :)  Needless to say, it's a low dose. lol

I'll keep you posted.

I'd love to hear from anyone else who's taken Coreg before!!

Hugs, Teri tongue

Hi Miss Terri,
What would be the need and benefit of changing feom Lanoxin 0.125 BID and Atenolol 25 mg BID to Coreg as my doc suggested yesterday.

Thanks

Hi Flopsie   tongue Welcome!

I'm no expert on this, and you didn't mention what your current condition is, so I'd be just taking a stab in the dark on this one.

I'm on Dig and Coreg.  I do have Heart Failure, along with diastole and systole dysfunction and mitral regurgitation with a prior MI.  A lot of cardio Dr.'s just feel that Coreg is a better drug than the others for HF.  (And that's why I'm on that one.) :)

Your best bet would be just to ask your Dr.  Please let me know how this goes!!

Wishing you well!

Hugs, Teri tongue

Am doing great, have been on them for 15 years, with only 1 increase in all that time. We increased the Atenolol to 50 mg per day. I have MVP and a problem with conduction, Does not fire or misfires. Changed PCP, yesterday was first time Seeing this new doc, He is not a cardiologist (My cardio is the one that increased the atenolol) he just told me he would rather I be on Coreg, because that is what he puts his patients on. I immediately said NO, then saw your post and thought I would pick your brain.

Thanks Hon,

flopsie

Read the warnings on this closely.

Flopsie

I have heart failure.  I've been unable to exercise and my heart's gotten weaker with the BNP going up.  My Cardiologist who's one of the best believes that Coreg is a great med. for the heart.  I started on my 3.125 mg. dose (daily total) on 9-21-05 - today is 9-28-05.  In one week, my body is already adjusting to the tiredness and it's gotten easier.  As of yesterday, I actually did some things in one day around the house that I've not done in over a year!!  So I can tell you that makes me feel pretty
great! tongue

Re your situation...you know I can't tell you what to do, Flopsie.  I can only relate what it's done for me, with my diagnosis.  Everyone's situation is different.  I've been asking for a magic wand every year for Christmas, but so far, I haven't found it under my tree. :) Wish I had one.

Please keep me posted on your decision and how you are feeling!!

Bunches of Hugs always, Teri tongue
