Hi, I am 40 yr old female who has had severe migraines, tightness in my chest, shortness of breath that would cause me to cough and just recently found out after a bubble study and a tee that I have a pretty large hole causing right / left shunting. The cardiologist told my husband while I was coming out of sedation that I would need surgery, but he could not do it I would need to go to another cardiologist that could do it. I was told no strenuous activities, My job is strenuous,so they had me out of work until my appointment. So got in to see the cardiologist at which point he tells me the surgery is not a option, and basically told me to listen to my body if Im feeling like Im over exerting myself to slow down. Basicly I'M on my own. He made an appointment to see a neurologist for my migraines with aura. I want to know if anyone has any advice, because the first cardiologist seemed very concerned and said Im a high risk for stoke, heart failure. So I'm A ticking time bomb. I'm not wanting to pile up medical bills if everyone is going to tell me the same. Is there anything I should look into or am I really a ticking time bomb.

I was wondering if anyone else with this pfo has really bad leg cramping. Especially at night ? I have this all the time, but at night it keeps me awake and wakes me up?

Brokenhearted,

Do you remember why the 2nd cardiologist said they could not do surgery? Were they talking about open heart surgery or a transcatheter closure device? Because your shunt is right-left you may be experiencing pulmonary hypertension. Do you remember if your report said that the right heart was enlarged?
I would get another opinion.

No they didnt say much I felt like it was the end of the day and he wanted to get me out so he could go home. I was very frustrated, I am thinking about seeing another cardiologist but scared of another dead end and just racking up medical bills for them to tell me nothing.

hi guys. BH i think skell is onto something. may not need open heart surgery. magnesium is used for cramps,(and ya ticker) sometimes post surgery- albeit check with ya doc. too much is not good either. keep well and strong. i would check out cardiac surgeons that are registered with the relevant body. (in your country).
