"Us Cuts Cholesterol with Drugs, Not Lifestyle
Older Americans have lowered their cholesterol levels thanks to popular statin drugs, but adults of all ages have resisted making the healthy lifestyle changes that can cut the fat, according to a study reported Tuesday."
How many of you have changed your lifestyles since your heart disease began?
Have you changed your diet?
Have you started an exercise program?

hi teri,

i've read alot about this too. that people who are on statins, many of them, feel the statins are the
"cure-all" - the "i'm on statins so i can do anything i want." i think that most things i've read say this
is really dangerous thinking! you have to modify your lifestyle in other ways, not just with meds -
that is, regular exercise, weight loss, no smoking, little drinking, and that good ole healthy diet. EVEN
with the statins! those of us with serious heart disease should check out ALL paths, not just the
medicinal one (methinks!).

I'd like to say that I've changed my lifestyle and kept at it, but I'm really struggling. I have had 3 excellent weeks with my food plan, but not with my exercise. I need to do far better in that area. I've kept my blood sugars down really well for the most part. I'm on a 1400 calorie diet with less than 30% fat (I try to keep it about 25), 11-12 carb exchanges a day, and keeping my sodium down. One of the best things I ever dif for myself was go to cardiac rehab. If anyone is given the go ahead by their cardiologist, I'd highly recommend it.
