Hi all,

I usually post in the lyme forum. Anyway, recently I found out my Mom who will be 90 years old had a silent heart attack which was not recent but the doctor told me it could have happened over a year ago or 10 years ago... This doctor wanted my Mom to see a cardiologist who prescribed her a beta blocker.

I read the side effects of Metoprolol succinate and became scared for her as my Mom is very, very sensitive to prescription meds. My Mom already suffers from anxiety, insomnia, dizziness, etc.

I was wondering if anyone every tried herbs such as passionflower, chamomile, and some other herbs for their heart?

Thanks in advance,
Denise

hey, good question. the thing to consider if mum is on other medication herbs can interact with them as well. a chat with ya pharmacist is the go. dr's prescribe, pharmacists dispense. pharmacists are the med interaction specialists. mine tells me straight up about remedies other than medicine, or to stick with the med. hope this helps.

Thanks Happy Turtle for your reply. Pharmacists (at least all the ones I have talked to over the years) do not have a clue about herbs. You are lucky you have one that talks to you about remedies.. I am guessing you do not live in the U.S.?

My Mom takes one prescription medication which is Ambien to help her sleep when she is having problems. Other than that, nothing else. She eats healthy, walks her dog, etc. Very healthy for 89 years old!

I did lots more research on passion flower (the herb) and it seems like it may help her and also calm her anxiety.. My Mom really wants to try it so I am going to order it for her. If I thought it may hurt her I wouldn't let her take it. She told me that after she read all the side effects of Metoprolol succinate that she refuses to take it.

I was just curious if anyone had any experience with any herbs for their heart conditions... Also, I have been researching herbs and plant medicines for many, many years not for the heart but for lyme disease to help others. I wish I had the money to take a class to get certified as an herbalist.

Thanks!
Denise

yes to passionflower, and or chamomile, tea is the best form. chamomile is good for bed time, passionflower during the day. I am an Aussie!! Passionflower is the stronger of the two. yeah, get certified!! lol.
