I have crohns, and chronic anemia that even when corrected I have issues with my heart rate. I have been seeing a cardiologist on and off for a rapid heart rate. He prescribed dilitezem(sp) recently but I haven't started to take it yet since I have low blood pressure and my heart rate is often normal or low when I'm at rest so I was waiting for a few days off where I would not have to drive and could just watch it. It also seemed to be a bit better for a while. The doctor felt that it was related to inflammation from my autoimmune issues which have been under control. Well fast forward and you can see my previous post, my mother is extremely ill in the hospital and I've been pushing myself to take care of everything the last few weeks. There are some subtle signs the crohns is showing up again and with it my heart rate is bizarre. When I am sitting it is between 80 and 110 but when I stand or walk it shoots up to 156 I feel a weakness inside and when I stand in one place I get a sick sinking sensation that makes me have to bend forward. I don't know whether I should wait it out or see some one. My doctors are too far away from me right now and the ER would be my only choice. I am concerned at the ER they would just say write it off as anxiety because they don't know my history. Should I be concerned?

I would take the med. it was prescribed. I hear ya concerns, albeit we know our bodies, the cardiologist would know why they are prescribing the medication. give the medication a chance. you are driving your ticker too hard. the stress will set ya going with anxiety, blood pressure will go haywire and because your not taking the medication you will go in circles until you are in the hospitals cardiac ward. get some support, slow down and take the medication. by all means, vent away here, we are here for support.

Hi Thehappyturtle, thanks so much for your advice. I ended up going to the walk-in yesterday because I started to have other signs of dehydration (bad muscle spasms) and some pretty severe abdominal pains. They sent me to the ER. Turns out that besides being dehydrated the Crohn's disease has returned. So apparently my body wanted to get in on the insanity. I am going to start the meds this week and hope for the best, but my main concern before was that I'd be dehydrated when I started it and it would drop my already low BP so atleast that's been addressed.

Hi Happyturtle,
I never got back to say what ended up happening, I ended up in the hospital, turned out that the crohns inflammation was making my heart rate higher, plus I had a Pulmonary Embolism and an SVT causing issues! now about 6-8 months later my heart is happy again:) thanks for commenting when I was feeling so bad and needed advice!!
