Hi everyone .. the surgery is over ..I had  the open- heart surgery for my PFO on Oct 30th 05 .. I'm having a few health isssues.. one is a fast heart rate .. which I never had before surgery ..

the second is I have some fliuid in one lung ..which I:m taking a latex & posstasium medication.. I started cardio -rehab.. and will get a 24/7 heart monitor .. had EKG which shows increase in heart rate ..

I really am feeling fine .. except for the heart rate ..

anyone have this happen after open heart surgery .

Great to be back ..

Great Day to all

That's great news littlebuger.   Sorry about the rapid heartrate tho!  Do they think this might just be temporary until your heart and all heals?  I hope so!  Take it easy and pamper yourself and hope you have a speedy recovery!  Hugs, Pat

Hi littlebuger.I am new to the board and just read your post.i am gald you are feeling ok and will pray that you get stronger and stronger with each day.

I had a amplatzer occluder done in june it was done through the groin not open heart. i was in the hospital for about 3 days.and then went home .i had to take plavix for 3 months and a whole asprin. then in sept i was taken off the plavix and now take only 81 mg of asprin. i do find i have less headaches and the dizzness is gone pretty, and knock wood my heart rate seems to be stable it use to be fast before and i had a lot of pvc. and i aslo had high plum tenision in which on my last echo has clear up pretty much

I also just had fusion surgery done on the 17 of nov so am in quite a bit of pain.but for the most part i think the amplatzer has work. I don't mine telling you i still get a bit nervous when i get some discomfort in my chest and i have panic attack. which i am trying to deal with. but for the most part i think i am better, knock wood.

I sure hope that in time you find yourself getting better and better with everday.and please know my thoughts and prayers are with you

best wishes

Hi Tyler's granny and welcome to you.  I' m not familiar with the procedure you mentioned, amplatzer occluder.  Is it a procedure used for heart arrythmia's or is it for blocked arteries?  At any rate, it sounds like it was successful thank goodness!  Hope your feeling better after your surgery on the 17th!  God Bless, Pat

Hi pat thanks what i had done was they inplanted a small device in my heart to close a small hole it was done through the groin so they didn't have to open me up THANK GOD.and i was told was the reason to have it done because there could be a chance the hole could cause a stroke and as i was having a lot of headaches and numbness and my cardio dr didn't want to take a chance, and with this neck surgery i had on the 17 i am hoping it will also take away some of the pain and numbness.i guess time will tell GOD BLESS TO YOU take care

Hi Tyler's Mom.  Wow, I'm glad they could do that without open heart surgery!  Way to go.  The ablation procedure I had done was through the groin also!  Sure makes a difference in the recovery time, not to mention the pain!!!  Hope this gets rid of that pain you've been having!   Hugs, Pat
