I was just looking at the calendar, and, alas, Saturday will be my 13 year anniversary of my Pericardectomy.
This very site was vital in my education beforehand, and support and help afterwards.
It was done at UCSF, San Francisco...
Started as a pulled muscle at work, and I made the necessary trip to the hospital, as it was a work related injury..
Had labs done, and it began..
They saw crazy results, initially looking at my liver, more films, and a sonogram, heart was heavily calcified.
I think I was in the hospital just a few days afterwards, though, had a major setback right at Christmas / New Years week (fluid building up), one awful hospital visit, then UCSF agreed to take me back in, and I think my final release was around Jan 13th or so.
(I ended up going back to USCF in mid-2005, as an employee working in the campus bookstore/ and medical equipment sales . It was a blessing to me, to be able to meet a number of those who'd helped me, and make friendships and giving some of the love back...)
It all turned out OK, in the end, and I'm now healthy, though, my chief complaint would be, my mental state (anxiety, depression), and I'm always wondering it it's a long after-effect of the surgery.
I plan to keep on keepin' on
Merry Christmas to all you great people out here.
