Hi everyone!

I did post here ages ago! I am 14 (well, 15 in 3 days!!) i have dextrocardia, and i keep needing blood transfusions nearly every couple of weeks, and just found out yesterday, right, listen to this lol! that the blood is being forced out my heart and getting destroyed coz my artery is well messed up, this is why i am always anemic, Anyway, i went to see my cardiologist yesterday who says i need an operation soon, they are gonna take an artery out my leg and put it in my heart, after they take the messed up one out lol. do you think this sounds like by-pass? coz my arties arnt blocked, i have stents, but this one artery is not normal, its all twisted and kinked.

Anyway just wanted to know what you all thought coz i am just a bit worried about this

Thanks.... Amiee

Hi Amiee and its good to see you again...but sorry the news is not so good.  From your description this is a by pass that they will be doing.  I know the thoughts of open heart surgery is so very scary but my thoughts on this is that it is going to help you sooooo much and will probably feel better than you've felt in a very long time once you have recooperated from the surgery.  I would say it is a blessing that they finally discovered this problem and will be able to correct it with this surgery!  Please keep us posted and let us know when you are going to have surgery so we can send good thoughts, prayers, cross our fingers and toes and ALL the good things we can think of when you have the surgery!  Bless your heart for having to go through this at such a young age but it is your youth that is going to help you get through this.  smurf Big hugs, Pat

PS:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  yeah

Hi Aimee,

How are things going along and how was your Birthday ?

I really loved your poem, and it's been one that I cherish.  I read it on the Anxiety board.

Have been and will be Rootin' for you all the way.

Love to you,

Ann

Aimee, So sorry to hear this but you will do well. You have a special spirt and your job here on earth is not done. I had my by-pass at age 47 and i plan to be arouund a long time. Life is wonderful and you have many more to live. Keep your chin up and i will keep you in my prayers. Just think about all those good looking drs and nurses you will meet, and you being so young they will spoil you rotten. Next time we hear from you after the surgery we might have to get out the oust. Love you girl,

Hello Aimee, happy birthday. We share the same month, and almost the same day (mine was the 17th). But, I'm ummmm MUCH older, lol.

I know the surgery must sound so scary for you, but listen to what these very intelligent (and supportive) people have said. You do have youth on your side. And, although it's still serious, this surgery is done so often now that they have it really perfected. My uncle was one of the first people to have a bypass back in the later sixties. I'm not sure how many before him had, it, but it was earlier in the history of bypasses. At that they only did one bypass. Now they do quadruple bypasses and send people home in a couple of days. The technology is amazing. You will do great and get through this in great shape. Good luck to you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hugs, Kathy

hello again everyone..... and thanks for the support!

I go in hospital on monday and have the operation on tuesday, i am very nervous but i know i will be ok. i just think that this time next week it will all be over with and i will probably be back at home too! lol  i was told by my cardio that it could be a bit tricky coz i have a pacemaker and they might need to take the leads out of my heart to get to the artery or something like that lol! but they have reassured me that i will be fine, and i will not wake up in agony, coz i was worried about that, and i will be home by saturday! lol wicked! lol

Love Amiee
