Hi... Has anyone experienced problems with Plavix after stents were put in? How dangerous is it to stay on Plavix for an extended period of time?

Many people are placed on Plavix indefinitely after suffering a heart attack. I was only on it for 3 months after my heart attack and stent. I'm now on aspirin which can also have side effects in the long run, like gastric problems. From what I could find online it looks like there is not as much research done on the long term effects of Plavix vs. aspirin. Some very small studies were done on healthy people, though. This is in marked contrast to the large database available on aspirin safety. Important questions remain about what can be expected with long-term use of Plavix. If you do a google search with "long term effects of Plavix" I think you will find several good articles.

Hi linder,

I have been on Plavix and Asprin (325) for close to two years now. According to my cardio doc
I will be on this for long time, maybe indefinitely. So far so good for me. I do bruise easily but other
than that everything is A-OK..

cool  HI THERE, THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ON THIS SITE ALSO. I HAD TWO STENTS PLACED A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO AND HAD TO BE ON PLAVIX FOR 9 MONTHS, COULDN'T WAIT TO GET OFF OF IT, NOW ON BABY ASPIRIN  ONE A DAY. I KNOW SOMETIMES PEOPLE STAY ON IT. YOU KNOW HOW YOU HAVE TO TAKE SO MANY MEDS AT FIRST IT IS HARD TO SAY WHAT SIDE EFFECTS EACH ARE CAUSING, BUT I WILL SAY I DID HAVE STOMACH INJURY, DEVELPOED GASTRITIS , SO MAKE SURE YOU STAY ON WHATEVER THEY PRESCRIBE, USUALLY RANTIDINE FOR YOUR STOMACH.
