Hi Curly

Arteriosclerosis is a natural aging process, I have read. His may have been accelerated by lifestyle habits, such as smoking, I don't know. If they checked his heart, they would probably find arteriosclerosis in his coronary arteries to some degree.

He should make sure that he controls his blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol. He should eat a heart healthy diet, and make sure he is not overweight. He should also get plenty of exercise, if approved by his doctor(s).

Ask the doctor about your Dad taking the anti-coagulants like aspirin and/or Plavix.

Regards,
RJ

cool  HI CURLEY, SORRY TO HEAR about YOU DAD, I AM SURPRIZED THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. AND WHAT DID THAT MEAN? HAVE YOU CHECKED THE NET TO SEE about THAT PARTICULAR DIAGNOSIS? I ONLY KNOW THAT IF YOU HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND A THICK MIDDLE SECTION YOU ARE AT INCREASED RISK FOR A STROKE, UNLIKEMYSELF, I HAVE HIGH CHOLESTERAL. I ONLY BRING THAT UP BECAUSE WHEN I GOT MY DIAGNOSIS OF CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE AND THEY DID AN EXTRA ULTRASOUND TO CHECK THE ARTERIES IN MY NECK,THAT WOULD MEAN I WAS MORE PRONE TO A STROKE IF THER WERE BLOCKAGE IN THAT AREA.

also watch his fats and no trans fats and like others have said BP ,Cholestrol down and no white stuff get on a heal;thy eating plan and keep his brain active. Everyone at some point willhave hardening and plaque in their brain depending on what type of diet they eat and the way they have lived life.

Thank you all for the reply's,my Dad has never had a weight problem in fact I have never seen an over weight person on his side of the family. So that is not a problem, but he does smoke thoe. The reason that his Doctor said there was nothing he could give him because of the other med's that he is on would not work with what he would precribe other wise.He does take a baby asperin aday.A couple od month's ago he had two miled heart attack's and his heart doctor said it was wear and tear because of his age.He does take a heart med's and now he has a problem with sever edema and his heart doctor told him to wear stocking like thing's to help with th swelling but it is not doing any good and he want give my dad any thing for the edema.I'm very thankfull for the reply's.
