In 2000 i had a 5 vessel by-pass. Last year i had a stent and need one more but Dr feels it's too risky to do anything else at this time. I thought it took longer for arteries to clogg up. I take coumadin, plavix and mevacor. After 3 mi's my heart can't take another. At age 47 when i had my cabag my heart surgen told me genetics was my main problem, along with a few other things diet, smoking, weight, i have lost over 100 lbs. Even with all this i'm still clogging up. Is anyone else having this problem? I have stopped taking mevacor, due to the severe side effects and it's not helping anyway.

Hi Deltacece :) I tip my hat to you for having had all the courage it took to go through this surgery, and losing all that weight. Geeze my mind has been on this "how long does it take to clog again" obcession since I had two stents in August of last year. I have had one "light" heart attack". It wasn't light for me. Have you had any since your CABG?
Hey, don't tell anyone, but I still cannot quit the nicotine myself. What a shame for both of us. I am probably 25 lbs over my ideal weight. Maybe 30....I don't think I have ever tried Mevacor. I hope that you are truly sure that this medicine is troubling you.....because, shux they say it works, right? I can certainly understand the inability to tolerate it, but I guess at this point I would be willing just to feel bad, and take this class of medicine to lower my cholesterol. They are supposed to help prevent those clogs we are worried about.
What type of side effects do you have, if you don't mind me asking? I get the ones where you have to stop the medicine. I am picking up some samples of 10mg Lipitor, today. I didn't know that it came this low a dose, and may well have misunderstood my best fried, nowadays, (lol) a very sweet nurse at my cardio's office. Boy, over the years I have met some good nurses and then some others, lol, but never in my life did I need such help and support as now. I don't bother her often, but I know I can get through to her and hear a friendly, joking voice. I am going to get her a little something, to show my appreciation.
Well, keep track of how you feel in the next few days and quit smoking.

RJ

Aldo, thank you for your kind words and your humor. The side affects i get are, rash, nausea, skin is hot and red all over. feel tired all the time. Makes me nervous. No mi's since by-pass. I also have cardiomyopthy with a 15 % ejection fraction rate, if you know what this is, if not look it up, interesting reading. I too am a nurse [ disabled ] 20 years. That is so nice of you to reconize a good nurse. Yes there are some well lets just say they are in the wrong profession. Let her know how you feel a small gift would make her day. Sometimes if someone gets a bad nurse, they think all are bad. In general there many more good nurses than bad. But like many things the bad stands out. I take one day at a time, i love life and thank god every day for it. I'll never give up, when i die i'll have on my boxing gloves. Sure i have my bad days but i'm happy and have the love of god and my family and friends, what more can we ask for?

cool  HI THERE TO YOU AGAIN, WOW YOU CERTAINLY HAVE BEEN STRONG TO GET THROUGH ALL OF THAT. I TOO JUST WENT OFF MEVACOR AS IT WAS KEEPING ME AWKE AND DEPRESSED, BUT IT SURE LOWERED MY #S. HAVE YOU BEEN ON OTHER STATINS IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS? THANKS FOR YOUR REPLAY TO ME THE OTHER DAY.

Hi, Delta.  This is my first time to post on this
board, but I've been going thru similar problems
myself.  Since February 2005, 11-1/2 months to
be exact, I've had 8 stents put in.  3 last February,
2 in October and 3 more last week (Feb 1 2006). My
doctor says I am the "Plaque Queen" of the hospital.
I've taken Lipitor and Lopid, and now am on Lopid
and Crestor.  I'm an insulin dependent diabetic and
take a calcium blocker, plus a beta blocker.  I don't
know what it is they block, but it sure "ain't" plaque!
They say at work that I'm trying to get published in
the Guiness World Book of Records as having the
most stents, but my cardiologist says there is no
limit as to the # you can have.  At $6500 per stent,
I believe my doc may have imbedded a can of Crisco
in my chest.  Anyway, let me know how you're doing
and I"ll do the same.  Congrats on losing the weight.
I was able to beat the 3-pack-a-day cigarette habit
7 years ago, but still weigh more than I should.  If
I found out I only had a short time to live, I'd have a
carton of cigarettes and a fry daddy in every room!
Take care, Cathy yeah

Welcome to HW Cathy. I am also insulin dependant and have found in researching that these two together make a big bomb. I need another stent right now but they won't do it due to my heart is too unstable . Drs. say they can't do anything else, but god can and he has. I'm happy to hear your doing well after all those stents and you'r still working, thats great. Never give up, their is new developments every day in controlling heart disease. The HW is a good place to visit for support, please visit often and again welcome, i'll keep you in my prayers. DELTA
