Hello all

I had a doppler test done on my carotid arteries and it shows my right artery is blocked 90%. My optometrist has been seeing hemmorhages in my eyes for about 5 years, and now he and and a opthamologist can see embolisms in both eyes. Therefore I was sent to a neurosurgeon to see about having (maybe) an endarterectomy to clean the plaque from my artery, so I will not have a stroke.

My glucose is also high...about 2 stages away from diabetis.

At this point now I am very confused....I saw the neurosurgeon on Monday...he checked all my reflexes ..  He had all the other information faxed to him.

So he told me I have not had a stroke, and some people live with blocked arteries, and that I do have other issues and to keep taking PLAVIX.

He did not explain any of this to me or give me a chance to ask any questions.

Is it quite normal to live with this artery blocked?

I thought I was going to him to prevent a STOKE.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

HI snshn784,  Welcome to healing well forum.

I am sorry that you are having these medical issues going on.  I wouldn't really know if this is something you could wait on or not as I don't have this condition and I am not a physician.  Hopefully someone will come along to better answer some of your questions.  However, in my point of view if I were in your shoes I would get a second opinion.  You obviously have many questions regarding your condition and possible outcome that this neurosurgeon didn't address with you.  Good luck and please keep us updated.

Welcome to the HW 784. Please get a 2nd opion. I do know that a carotid artery has to be at least 50% blocked or maybe even more i'm not sure on percentile, before they will stent it. My father-in-law had both done his was 70 and 80 % blocked. They done them 1 mo. apart and he done well. The info that dr. gave you don't sound right. I'm not a doc but i'm a nurse and this just don't sound right to me. PLEASE,PLEASE, get another opion soon. I'll keep you in my prayers DELTA
