prissy56 said...I am new here.  Recently, I have had episodes of PVC'S every day.  I went to the emergency room and me blood work and EKG was all normal.  Sent me home.  Then a week later the PVC's came back and lasted 10 1/2 hours.  Went back to the emergency room and the EKG did show premature beats and occasional skip beats.  The Dr. said these can be normal but did recommend a holter.  So I got that on and ha-ha it showed absolutely nothing.  My Dr. has an echocardiagram scheduled for next week, but so far he doesn't show anything abnormal.  I do run low in magnesium, but I do take supplements daily.  I have noticed that when my irritable bowel flares up these episodes come back.  Does anyone else experience this?  I am about at my wits end with these.  The Dr. did put me on some Ativan to calm me down when these episodes happen, but I wait if fear for the next episode to come back.

I would appreciate anyone's input!!! yeah

Hi prissy56,  I wanted to welcome you to Healing Well forum.  I wanted to be sure that people would see your post and be able to respond to it so I have started a new thread for it.  There are quite a few members that post that have PVC's so I am sure that you will have some advice from them soon.  Take care and keep posting we would like to hear more from you....

Prissy56, the only way that I could attempt to help you is to ask lots of personal questions, really nosey ones, and then I probably couldn't help...but....you can think about the answers you give, and you surely don't have to give any here :) I hope the bad heartbeats go away...

1) Do you smoke?
2) Do you drink caffeine in any form?
3) Do you use cannabis or any other illicit drugs? Have you in the past?
4) Are you in good physical shape?
5) Do you have good posture?
6) Have you ever been diagnosed with anxiety or depression?
7) Do you take any kind of diet pills or other stimulants?
8) Have you ever been in a serious auto accident?
9) Do you drink any alcohol and if so, how much?
10) Do you have any allergies to food, medicines or irritants?
11) Do you take any prescription medicines or otc medicines?
12 Have you ever had surgery?

Here is a recent Q&A from a patient and a doc posted on this forum:

Post by Vincent on 2/24/06

I was Diagnosed with PVC's almost a year ago. They started all the sudden while I was eating dinner and watching everybody loves Raymond. I love that show. I have never been the same since. For most of this time I maybe had 1 or 2 that I noticed A week. But the last 3 days They have been non stop. I been to the ER and today my cardio. I was just put on Toporol XL. How long does this pill take to start being effective. I am having pvc's right now as I type. It is scaring the crap out of me! I am a 31 year old male. It has really affected my life. I am grumpy all the time worrying aout these. Wondering If I will die the next PVC. It's easier for someone to say It's ok and "Normal" But most of those people don't have these. Some words of encouragement will be highly appreciated. Any advice is also helpfull, THANKS!

Reply by a cardiologist (DocER):

Vincent,

first off, I know they are uncomfortable and annoying, but be reassured, they are not life-threatening.

Secondly, I agree with the beta-blocker, if you can tolerate it. Probably the best treatment.

Lastly, need to stop ALL caffeine--even decaff coffee and chocolate. Can take a while after the caffeine is gone (even 3 months) for its effects to be gone. Also, try over the counter magnesium supplements. Look in this forum under pvcs before (appears to be a common problem) for a list of different mag supplements.

Hope this helps.
