I hate to be a lunatic but I have GERD and some anxiety problems. Tonight I had two chocolate muffins (chocolate really does a job on my GERD). Naturally, two hours later I had the worst acid reflux and heart burn of my life. However, this time it came with the less frequent chest pain. I sat down, started writing some e-mail and doing work on the computer and noticed my hand cramping up near the position where I don't rest it (the middle near the elbow). I automatically assumed I was having a heart attack and ALMOST called 911 except for the fact that my wife told me I'm insane and gave me some maalox which cleared it right up. I am horrible at life LOL sad

You really need to have that endoscopic analysis! I have had 2 myself. The first found ulcers in my small intestine, erosions in my stomach and esophagus. The second showed all was well, at the end of ulcer treatment. My problems came from abuse of aspirin and ibupropen for many years. Only two things cause ulcers; a bacteria, or abuse of NSAIDs.
Gerd can damage your stomach and esophagus. I read where some gastroenteroligist believe there is a connection with some type(s) of heart disease and Gerd. I don't know if cardiologist believe this.

dm.. If you are a lunatic then I must join your club. Before I fully realized what was going on, I ate at a mexican restaurant, then went shopping...starting kneeling down looking at stuff on low racks.. and whammo.. instant horrid chest pain. Go to ER.. get EKG... get GI cocktail shoved down my throat. Get a pat on the head and told to use Zantac and home I went..lol.
I also continue to do really dumb things without thinking of my GERD.. like eating pizza and garlic bread (which is okay usually if I sit up) and then immediately laying down to read a book. That was pain, that was pain on a scale of 8 for my chest pain. Luckily.. I KNEW this time and hunted up some meds and was fine.
So the lunatic club is bigger than you know.

Oh dm,  We all go through that some time or another.  I had an incident about a month ago I was in a hurry and went to McDonalds drive thru for lunch.  I dont usually eat there mind you.  But 2 hours later I was curled up on the bathroom floor in extreme distress.  I wont go into anymore details :-) ....My point?  I learned my lesson that day...no more McDonalds. 

You should give your wife a big kiss and tell her thank you for saving your life.  Or at least saving you from 4 or more hours at the emergency room and a whopping bill..... tongue

:-)  so we all have gerd, i am sure it is brought on by the meds,  hey also, what did you take for that ulcer you were aable to get rid of? for future reference, and how many years did it take to get to that point

I took a proton pump inhibitor for about 2 months and that cured the ulcer. I will take these meds for as long as I live. If I stop, I have severe pain.....
