Hey everyone! I'm a bit down today. A couple of days ago I had a scary incident at home and posted on the GERDS board but got no reply. I'm not sure if it was GERDS related or heart related but it really scared me. So I guess I will call my cardiologist's office tomorrow and see what they say about it. I was really hoping it was all GERDS related but I really don't know!?

It was at night and I was just sitting around when I felt as if it were hard to get a breath. Then I felt just a touch of lightheadedness. Next my stomach really started to hurt. Then I got a warm feeling all in my stomach that moved up into my chest and I felt tingly or some kind of awful sensation all over from my stomach into up chest up into my head. I grabbed by BP monitor and can't remember what it said but I remember that it registered my heart rate at 120. I thought that was strange because I really did not feel as though it was racing. Well I was just ready to call 911 because I felt so bad when it all subsided just that like-snap, over. Then I felt as if their was food stuck in my throat and I burped most of the rest of the evening. That is why I think it could be GERDS.?.?

A week ago Friday, I had another episode of feeling like I could not breath and a bit of lightheadedness but none of the rest of the stuff. Then I felt as if food were stuck in my throat and I started burping all evening. I had eaten pizza that night and had eaten kind of fast because I was starving.

After the burping starts, I don't feel short of breath anymore. That is why I'm wondering about GERDS. Any thoughts?????????

P. S. I use to be on Protonix but after 8months it started causing me BIG trouble. So I went off of it and I had no symptoms after that and never went back on the medication. I'm having an endoscopy on Thursday because my cardiologist thinks that some of my chest pain might come from some kind of stomach problems.

It does sound like sort of an acid reflux thing.  I was just given a prescription for Protonix so they can find out if the burning in my chest is cardiac related.  I am feeling much better, and have had no burning since I started taking it.  What problems did you have on Protonix?

After awhile, I started having "copious" bowel movements that were really smelly. Also I couldn't control the gas. It is embarrasing enough at home but when you are out or in the car...! I immediately started burping more. When I mentioned it to the doctor, he just laughed like he is amused by bathroom issues at the age of 47something. I was serious and needed some answers because it is just not normal for me to have those kinds of problems. Also the burping started first thing in the morning and was all day. I'm talking about sitting up in bed and having a FORCEFUL belch escape from your lips immediately. I could not control it. They just said stay on the medicine. Then I started waking up in the middle of the night feeling like my abdomin was on fire from the inside. It was horrific pain!! So I stopped on my own and everything immediately cleared up.

It does really sound gastric related.  Do you keep Mylanta or anything like that around your house?  I have noticed that since I am on more medications now and all these BP meds that I have more trouble with my stomach.  I take Aciphex twice a day and Mylanta whenever I need it also my doctor wrote me a script for Phenegrin tablets for the times that my tummy is really upset.  I haven't been dxed with GERD but I do have some acid reflux.  Please let us know how your test goes.....
