I've had a 64slice CT scan but I don't know anything about the nuclear scan. Is that the one done with the MRI?

If this test is using computed tomography (CT) technology, then it is not as reliable as the 64 slice CT Coronary Artery Scan. If it is MRI technology then ask him if it is the latest and very greatest. That would be the MRI equipment with the "super powered magnets".

Dreamgirl,

I just googled "nuclear heart scan". Is that where you do the stress test along with it? That's what I got from the google. I've had that lots of times. I hate it but it isn't too bad. You can't have any caffeine for 24-48hrs before and you can't eat or drink like 6-8hrs before the test.

When you get there, they shoot some radioactive compound into your veins and take pictures of your heart at rest. It is a breeze. You just sit there quietly.

Then you go exercise hooked up to a blood pressure cuff and EKG monitor. They monitor you while you exercise. That really isn't anything until the very end. I hate the feeling of my heart POUNDING at the very end of the test and you can see the spikes going up and down sharply on the monitor. Don't worry! They watch everything very closely. I just hate the feeling at the end when my heart is really going to town. It is really a silly thing on my part.

Then they shoot some more compound in your veins and you have to wait awhile. Then more pictures.

My problem was after my test on the way home and in the evening. I had what felt like ANGINA several different times and the palpitations got bad! :( Finally I decided one more episode and I was going to the ER. It stopped after that and I was fine. ??GO FIGURE??

I don't want another test but my cardiologist seems to find a reason to do one every year! :( Next time I am going to insist on a 24hr holter to take home with me to find out what my heart is doing the next few hours at home!!!!

I would not worry about this if I were you because no one else ever seems to have these unusual things happen to them like they happen to me. LOL

I had the nuclear scan and it showed a false positive on me.  So I dont know if I would be so willing to do one again.
