:-)  hi david, sorry to hear you still do not have it under control. are you possibly eating anything that might cause it to elevate.  do you eat much salt or slaty foods?  my blood pressure gets high at times to, i have to stop whatever i am doing and listen to a relaxation tape. the breathing helped you before, did you try it this time?

I do relaxaton methods and it does go down. I'm just annoyed at the fact that it goes up at night time. I don't eat a lot of salty foods, in fact I don't eat a lot of anything usually aside from a sandwich here or some baked chicken there. I know, I know, my diet is garbage -- my doctor tells me ALL the time :)

oh you are so funny, is that sandwich made on whole grain bread at least? my bp has been running about 150/85 that is way too high and i am on a bp medication, i am caustiously watching it.  david, did you say you do not take any meds, nothing for any other condidtion? antidepressants can increase your bp, i think that i what is going on with me, i am on a low dose of zoloft and i think that is why my bp is up.

blood pressure has been running fine lately, I adjusted the diet down again to mostly mulch and grass (salad and veggies) and it seems to be somewhat stable. Although, the other night I became somewhat agitated with the blood pressure meter and well, let's just say it's not working anymore :)

I am taking medication just for my blood pressure, nothing else -- it's called Zebeta (bisoprolol). It's only 5mg because I have asthma, my doctor says he might want to push it to 10mg and see how that affects me.

My understanding is that it is normal for blood pressure to rise in the evenings.  However, 150 systolic, in my experience, is a level at which you can feel your pulse throughout your body.

Sodium is not just present in salty foods.  Are you eating any frozen foods, TV dinners, or microwaveable foods?

Some of those have over a thousand milligrams of sodium per serving!  No wonder my blood pressure had been creeping up over the past several years!

It took years to do the damage, and I expect it to take years to undo it.

When I went to the ER with heart palpitations a few months ago my BP was 159/100.

Now, on toprol xl and with a much better diet, as of last Friday it was 120/90.  Yippee!
