Hello to everyone,
I'm new here. Hoping I can gain some insight from you more experianced ones.

Had a very terrifying thing happen to me last night. I've been for the last two weeks having a strong pulse & a lot of racing, just out of the blue. Last night I was lying in bed & my chest felt funny, had also been having slight burning in the upper chest. So I got my stethoscope & my heartbeat sounded a bit off...seemed to miss or skip a beat every so often. Then all of a sudden I heard this weird gggfllummpppff from my heart...& I felt it in my chest as well, then my heart rate immediately shot sky high, very fast but heartbeat was even. This lasted for a few minutes. Went to the ER they saw nothing, ekg, x-ray & blood tests all tests came back fine. Had a echocardiogram last Saturday, but still have not gotten any results. Dr today said he heard a slight heart murmur. Am going to a cardiologist next week. But in the meantime I have no idea what's going on. I'm 34, 110lb female. Other then having gallbladder surgery last year I'm fairly healthy.

Any incite into this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Heather

Hi Heather,

Sounds like some kind of arrhythmia. This is quite common in a lot of people and it can occur in perfectly healthy people. You've done the right thing to get it checked out, though. Arrhythmias can be caused by lifestyle issues or health problems and its recommended that you focus on lifestyle first as well as seeing a doctor to check your general health. The "burning" you talk about may be heartburn, and therefore stomach related, which can have an effect on your heart-rate.

At this point I'd like to address Admin regarding lifestyle issues. Basic guidelines regarding diet and daily routine and tips to prevent/reduce benign arrhythmias would be useful as a sticky on this site. It would be very useful for people like Heather who have just started having noticeable symptoms.

I posted how my lifestyle changes made a big difference to my symptoms. While every case is different, most of us have hectic lives that stop us taking proper care of ourselves. This is true for my case. Do a search for my username on this site or check the links below.

Please take a look at issues covering lifestyle/diet Here:

Good luck with the echocardiogram,
