I have never been diagnosed with anything, as of yet.  My question is based on experiences in the last couple of weeks and I have made an appointment, but am really scared at the moment and not sure if I am just freaking out or if I should be freaking out. lol

about 3 weeks ago, I was aawakened from sleep with a HORRIBLE pain in my chest.  So bad, I was crying.  It lasted about 10 minutes and suddenly stopped.  I dismissed it as heartburn and finally went back to sleep.

Last night, I went to bed with a terrible headache and I was awakened again.  This time the pain was so intense, it went through my chest, back and neck.  I was crying and practically yelling in pain.  It was the worst pain I have ever felt (and I have been in labor!! lol).  All I could think was, I am going to die.  I could not move, I couldnt breathe well, I was sweating badly and in such pain, I thought I just couldnt take it.  It was a horrible burning pain, like my chest was filled with burning coals and I couldnt get them out.  This lasted about 45 minutes.  I couldnt get to my cell phone to call an ambulance, although I was in such a panic, I dont know that I could have dialed.  I also had a headache and nausea and was covered in sweat.  But, just like the last time, all of a sudden, like a light switch, it was gone.  In a split second.  Nothing left but the headache, sweat and panic feeling.

This morning, I felt ok.  I still have a headache and feel a little "different" than normal.  But no pain.  I am 34 years old, a smoker and have gained about 45 pounds in the last 2 years.  I am also not active at all.  I sit at a computer at work all day and all night at home.  My family has a history of heart attacks, and my cousin had one in her twenties.

I am still doubtful on the heart attack idea, because I dont see how I could have one and be ok today.  I dont think that is possible, is it?

I called my doc but she didnt have time to see me today.  She said if it was bothering me, to go to the ER, but I have no symptoms now, so I dont think that would help.

Any clues?  I have read a ton of chest pain articles and none of them match my symptoms.  I am really scared.

Just a quick addition. My mom is worried because she said I had a heart murmur when I was younger. I didnt know that until right now. Also, the nausea is pretty bad. I have thrown up twice so far today. Every little thing is making me sick to my stomach.

You definately need to go see a doctor. It could be a heart attack or coronary artery spasms or heartburn or ? because the first two are life-threatening you shouldn't drag your heels on this. A wait and see attitude is not good in a situation like this. If it is nothing serious, good. You have nothing to be embarrassed about. If it is serious, you can't get proper help until you get checked out.

Hi Lisa,  I wanted to welcome you to Healing Well forum.  We are glad to have you.  I totally agree with dreamgirl and hope.  I am 32 and have some pretty serious heart issues.  Mine started all of a sudden one morning I was completely dizzy and passed out on my living room floor for 30 minutes.  I have bradycardia and a pacemaker to keep my heart rate up where it is supposed to be.  Granted I haven't had a heart attack and dont know what that feels like but any issue that you believe could be heart related needs to be checked out as soon as possible.  Please do so and let us know....Take care

Chest pain is never something to take lightly, however a pain that goes away as fast as it can be is most likely a spasm or heartburn. You should see your doctor to find out exactly what it is. In the mean-time, if you have this pain again, sit upright in bed and try not to panic - panic compounds even the most simple of problems.

Hello Lisa, did you ever get to see a doctor or have testing done? I have a short but traumatic heart history and had a heart transplant 10 months ago. My biggest problem was not being taken seriously. Heart attack symptoms can be very different for each person and especially men versus women. A heart attack can occur quickly or over a period of time. DO NOT WAIT. And an ECG or blood work for enzymes may reveal nothing. You need to have a "nuclear stress test" and then possibly a "heart catherization". Many times I was having a blockage and nothing showed up until I actually had a heart catherization. Women's cardiac vessels are much smaller then men's and the microscopic vessels can be blocked but not show up on even a stress test with dye.

Please let us know how you do . . .   Cindy

Hi Lisa, I agree with everyone that you should see a Dr. right away. Dont wait for the next episode to happen. I had a heart attack at age 44 with no warning that it was going to happen. I felt alot like you described, first nausea and swetting, then shortness of breath and feeling like a weight was on my chest.I dont want this to scare you but I just want you to find out if it is your heart. Keep us informed and I wish you all the best.
