help dad has surgery tomorrow!

hi there everyone

my dad is scheduled for a triple bypass and valve replacement tomorrow and I am really starting to freak out with fear.  I must admit I know nothing about this surgery, what it involves and recovery period.

I am very close to my dad even though we are currently in two different countries.  I am scared , he is 76 this year and a diabetic...I am scared and I feel really guilty because I cant be there for him.....I was recently dx with stge 3 breast cancer this year (at 33 yrs) and too ill from chemo and radiotherapy to travel.

Please could someone out there tell me what this surgery involves and what I should expect as far as recovery is concerned.  Thanks so much

Hi Melanie,  Welcome to healing well forum.  I am sorry I didnt see your post until just now.  I dont have any experience with bypass surgeries at all but we do have some members that have went through that and came out just fine.  My mom is getting ready to get her 2 of her valves replaced and I know it is very scary.  I think the thing is just to keep a positive thought.  I will say a prayer for your dad and you.  Take care and please do let us know how it turns out.  I am sure you will have some more responses so hang in there.

Hi melicilma, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I had quad. bypass surgery when I was 44. I don't know how much information you would like to know, but I can tell you a little, and if you have any questions you can post again and I will try to help you. They take an artery out of your leg or your arm and use this to replace the artery to your heart. Recovery time is different for everyone. It took about 3 weeks for me, but at your dads age it will take longer of course. I wish Him all the best. You will both be in my prayers tonight.
