Hello to everyone, thank you for all your prayers and support. Once again god has let me live and and i am almost back to my normal problems. I was in and out of the hospital for the last 2 months, My heart just wouldn't do what they wanted to. But that's the past and i'll move on. I feel great compared to how i felt a few weeks ago. I hope all of you are doing well. Once again thankyou Healing Well Family, love to all of you and i will keep you in my prayers. DELTA

So good to hear from you Delta :-) !  I remember all the problems that you were having. I think you got at least one more stent, a couple of months ago. As Elisha says, you have made my day also yeah ......Now, since you are a nurse, I have a question.....You know that when someone has a heart attack, or has heart failure, most docs automatically put them on an ACE inhibitor. Myself, I have grown wary of them, because of how they work, which causes edema in me. Even the later generation of drugs called ARBs, that do the same thing as ACE i's, but in a different way, also cause edema.

I have quit 2 major meds in the past week. Timed released nitro, Imdur, and Atacand, an ARB. I had to stop Altace, and ACEi, about 6 weeks ago, due to a cough.

My new cardio wants me to start or try Diovan, which is another ARB. He told me this last Thursday after a cath. I haven't gone to pick up the sample yet. Instead, I have been taking Lasix, 40mg/day along with a beta blocker and my BP is being controlled beter with the Lasix/beta blocker (atenolol) combination, compared to a combo of ARB/Beta Blocker.

I know that statistics show that folks with CAD/heart disease live longer with an ACE inhibitor, but what price do we have to pay to "protect" our heart? I don't know whether he is insisting on the Diovan because of BP control, or heart protection. I use to rarely take Lasix for fear of low BP. I have been taking it daily since last Thursday. Good BP....

So, I guess my question is, do you think that I should take an ACE, or ARB for longevity, or just control my BP as best I can?

Thanks so much in advance :-) and please continue with the improving health! My ramblings are hard to understand, I know.... I am not awake yet....

Thank you Aldo and Els. Honestly Aldo, i'm sick of these Drs putting me on all these meds. Alot of them are new meds and some make me so sick i stop taking them. I'm on 13 different meds.If the meds are causing you to feel bad, i guess you have to make a choice, stop taking them or continue to feel bad. If this was my problem i would stop taking them and controll my b/p. But only you can make this choice. I take bumex 2mg daily and aldactone to controll my edema. Lasix drains me, i don't like it and the other meds work well. I don't feel like i helped any but hang in there and live one day at a time, with the heart problems you and i have, do we really know what the future holds? DELTA

Delta Lady :-)

I am closer to the delta than I was... I am on a little vacation in Gulf Shores. I have my Walmarty, cheap laptop.....

I have really taken what you said to heart. I am at least going to use Lasix to control my BP for awhile. In other words I am not going to take an ACEi, or ARB for a month or so. I want to see if I feel better and that is what I am going with...

I used to not like Lasix either. I am very interested in learning about the other diuretics you mentioned. I used to think that Lasix made me anxious. I really don't like anything that "messes" with my kidneys, but for now I do not have a choice.

Thanks soooo much for your information. I understand what you suggested totally.

Please get well yeah

:-)  Hi to both of you, so nice to hear from you, i missed you alot.  i am going to look uo endema as i do not know what that is. i take lisinopril and i am surprised to hear about the problems you both experienced. i thought that basically we had to stay on that forever, i thought it was safer than a beta blocker, were you both on high doses. i only take 5 mg daily, i never had to take them for my bp, it was not high, they just want me on it for my cad.  again, glad to have you back.

May you rest in peace and know that your contributions to HealingWell helped so many people when you were here with us on earth.

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not meant to be,
So he put his arms around you
and whispered "Come to Me".
With tearful eyes we watched you,
as we saw you pass away.
Although we loved you deeply,
we could not make you stay.
Your Golden Heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
