Does anyone know if a PFO or hole in the heart is considered a vascular disease. I have palinopsia (afterimages, trails, sensitivity to light). Online it says palinopsia is caused by vascular disease. I had a echo which showed right to left shunting. Doctor says its caused by a pfo or hole in the heart. My major symptom is 24/7 visual disturbances. I also see sparkles, or fast moving silver and white things. Im trying to find out if I have a vascular disease of some sort. Had a brain mri and normal. Now doctor seems to think the vision is happening because of an underlying heart problem. Heart problem causes neurological symptoms???? Can anyone talk to me about this. Looking for something....anything!!!

Luanne: Oh my gosh....that is so much to go through. So how old is your son, 12? Im assuming the bubble shaped things are floaters because I have the same thing and I can recall when I was younger describing them as bubble shaped things. Thanks so much for the feedback. I don't know about these sparkle things but does your son get them 24/7?

Before i had my pro i was having a lot of headaches and it did effect my vision.I would get really sparkles and light would makemy eyes hurt more.I also had blurr vision mostely in my left eye.
I like you had a mri and echo and it was all normal,I also had a lot of pvc so the dr had me to what is called a bubble study and that's where is showed i had a small hole in my heart and he said i should have the pfo inplant. I had it done last june and the headaches while i get them now and then are not nearly as bad.I aslo have deng disc disease so i have problem with my neck and shoulder and back so i think a lot of my problems are from that now.
I was put on plavix for 6 months after the pfo and now i just take a 81mg of asprin every day and i go for an echo every 6 months to check my heart.
I hope this helps some and if you have any question please feel free to ask and i will do the best i can.I usually post in the chronic pain forum but i check here .
I wish you all the best and i will keep you in my thoughts and prayer;s

Hi neurogurl, I too have some vision problems and I have a septial defect with sick sinus syndrom (bradycardia) for which I have a pacemaker implant.  I can say if my vision problems are linked with my heart condition or not as all of this was just diagnosed last year...and I do have Multiple Sclerosis also which is known to cause vision problems.
I hope you are able to find out the cause to your problems quickly...take care

Thanks so much for the tylers granny...I had a bubble study as well which showed the hole. I am waiting for my follow up apt to find out the size of the hole. I remember hearing the tech say that he saw 6 bubbles pass on the bubble study. Does this mean anything to you. How big was your hole and how many bubbles passed yours...thanks again!!!

To els...When you say you have vision problems....what type of vision problems, do you mind describing them for me. And also, you say you have ms, I had a brain mri which came out you think that I could still have ms with a normal brain mri and that maybe its this heart thing thats causing these vision problems? Thanks
