I've been having this real sharp chest pain today that stops me in my tracks, pain is at center of sternum. The pain only last for about 5-10 seconds but feels like a knife tip stuck me. I use to get them on my right side but today was the first experience at center of sternum. No pain elsewhere, nor does it move. I've counted some 10 episodes of this today and each has subsided in pain level, but I'm a bit worried about it. Seems the closest I could find on the net matching my symptoms is something called "Precodial catch syndrome", but even that isn't an exact match. I'm 41, average weight, smoker, I've been working out in a gym now for 4 months and these pains NEVER took place while exercising. First attach I got today took place about an hour after the gym and while resting. It bent me right over in my seat. The last attach I just had I forced myself to breath while it happened, no problem so the shortness of breath issue during the pain is not there. It's simply a sharp pain. When they first started, maybe 2 years ago I got maybe one a month on my right side breast area. Today has me scared since it's center and happening allot. Wife is bugginh me to go to ER but a number of factors are causing me to resist it. Any thoughts?

Hi Ken, I'm sorry to hear about the chest pain. I agree with your wife, I think the next time you have one, you should go to the ER. Mention it to your Dr. at least and see what they think you should do. At least you would know if it is your heart or not. I've had a heart attack and quad bypass surgery, so I would say don't take any chances. I hope you will find out the cause of your pain. Good Luck to you and take care of yourself.

Thanks hope. My wife convinced me to put my issues aside...even called me selfish...go figure..lol. Anyway something in all my internet readings I guess also had left me convinced it was nothing serious. Seems people with this PCS, if that is what's going on with me, is unexplained, untreated, and not of concern. I'll cross my fingers for that case.

go to the ER. I just read this to my brother in law who had bypass surgery a few weeks ago and he had the same complaints. He said his tests (stress test, echo, nuclear) came back fine. he had an angioplasty which showed 90 percent blockage. he had a five way bypass and doc said lucky to be alive.

he WAS also a smoker, but not anymore.

it doesn't mean you have anything, but you need to rule out anything serious.

Hi Ken, Welcome to healing well forum.  I totally agree with the other members here.  Any kind of chest pain at all should always be checked out by a physician.  You have no idea what is going on in there.  I was having chest pains and dizziness and ignored it...I am 33 years old and now have a pacemaker because my heart dosent beat the way it should.  Please get your chest pain checked out as soon as possible.
