I recently went off a low dose combination of Lovastatin and Zetia and am trying to lower my cholesterol by weight loss, exercise and adding cinnamon and Omega 3 to my low glycemic diet.

For the first time in my life, I now notice that I am not constipated.

Has anyone experienced constipation as a side effect of discontinuing cholesterol lowering drugs?

Please comment.

Sorry folks, that second sentence should read:

For the first time in my life I now notice that I am constipated.

Hey cagoz, I havent been on any chol. lower meds but I can tell you that any change in your diet will throw your internal system for a loop.  When I changed my diet to low carb, high protein I went through the same thing myself...and I also take several medications that cause constipation.  There is one thing you can add as a suppliment that any and most likely every doctor would agree is beneficial to everyone...Flaxseed Oil.  I take the caps twice a day and it helps keep things regular.  But you can find Flaxseed's in health food stores with instructions on how to take them, and Wal-Mart also sells Flaxseed Oil in the bottle as a liquid or as a gel cap.
