I am a 50 year old male who has trouble whenever I do strenuous exercise. When I exercise such as referee three minor hockey games or workout such as a 10 minute treadmill walking stress test, I get sick. Symptoms are similar to allergic reaction to environmental allergies or the beginnings of a virus or light flu. Doctor's seem to shrug it off. Last year (Feb 06) I had a case of walking pnuemonia and  last Nov (06) I started to get chest pains when reffing or being outside in the cold.

If anyone can shed some light on my feeling sick after strenuous exercise and whether it is related heart and/or lung problem, please let me know.

If you think it is an 'allergic reaction to environmental allergies', try an antihistamine. Ask your doctor to give you a prescription for something like zrytec or allegra or whatever they are using these days. Or the pharmacist MIGHT suggest something like over-the-counter benydrl. Or maybe you are a bit deconditioned and need to build up stamina more slowly. ????? I'm just trying to throw out a few suggestions to help. Good Luck!

Hi sensfan, Welcome to healing well forum.  I dont know what to say about your problem really.  Perhaps you may try some light walking and then build up from there.  Or you can join a health club and work with a trainer who would be able to show you some light exercises to do starting out then you can streangthen your endurance from there.  It would be difficult to say if you have some sort of heart or lung problems unless your physician has actually ran tests to show that you do have problems in this area.

You may want to check with your regular physician if you haven't already.  I've had this type of symptom (flu-like after exercising) but I have an irregular heart rhythem problem, so since you didn't mention that as something your dealing with, your physician would need to run tests to determine what's up.
