Hi Diana, Welcome to Healing Well forum, we are happy to have you join us here.  I havent ever taken a statin so I cant speak as to how they work or how they make you feel.  I hope you get some replies real soon as I know there are some people here that take this medication.  Hang in there with us sometimes this forum gets a little slow.  Take care and keep posting.... :-)

Crestor has a higher rate of side effects than most of the other statins. Personally, I'd be reluctant to take it, especially if it was just to try to get my HDL "good" up...niacin does as good or better of a job of raising HDL and it is a B vitamin (though it does sometimes cause "flushing" which is hard for some people to take). I'd talk to the doctor about the pros and cons of each and make your decision from there.

Hi Monstrong.  well i have tried them all starting with lipitor. i switched to crestor and after two days stopped, severe back pain.  i am presently trying again to take zocor at a very low dose, i am quartering a 40 mg pill!!!!  my 10 cents would be that crestor has not been around long enough so i would not chosse3 it either.  here is a little piece of info,  red yeast rice is a natural statin, as a matter of fact it is the same as mevacor only in a herb.  i could not tolerate becasue i have IBS and all the statins wreak havoc on my intestines.  so far i am holding on zocor, i have been taking fish oil and eating a hanful of almonds and walnuts every day.  my good cholesteralo is up to 67 from about 57,  what are your numbers?  are your triglycerides high ?  i will check back for your response  by for now the nuts will also lower your trigs.
