Hello,

I just had an ECG and was told there were frequent PVC with occasional premature atrial complexes, normal sinus rhythms.  I was referred to a cardiologist but am anxious on what these results mean.  I got the following:

vent rate - 76 BPM

PR interval - 92 ms

QRS duration - 80 ms

QT/QTc - 376/419

P-R-T axes - 65 74 42

Are these numbers anything to be concerned with?

Thanks for any input that can be provided!

You probably mean Premature Atrial Contractions, or PACs.  PVCs are Premature Ventricular Contractions.  They are "premature" because they are essentially beats that are occurring before they should.  So while you should feel this: thump...thump...thump...  What you might hear with PVCs or PACs is: thumpthump......THUMP.  So what feels like a "skipped" beat actually isn't skipped, there's just a longer pause between two beats.

Many people experience both PACs and PVCs (I'm one of them), and most of the time this is all very benign, even though experiencing these premature beats can be uncomfortable.  It's good you're seeing a cardiologist to rule out any problems, and most likely you'll be totally fine, you'll just need to learn to live with the darn things like so many of us do!  If you do a search for PVCs, or even Google it, you will see exactly what I mean!

"Normal sinus rhythm" just means that your heart rhythm is normal.

Thank you Sarita, it's helpful to get some sort of feedback - I just had the ECG test yesterday and spent a good portion of last night googling and trying to make sense of it.  It was a surprise so hard to wait til my cardiologist appt.  It did say I have both PVCs and some PACs but most of what I found did say for the most part these aren't too concerning unless also with heart disease but should have it checked out.

Thanks again!
