Hello. I was on atenolol and I usually have low blood pressure. 25mg is a low dose and should not effect your blood pressure. That drug is used in higher doses when aimed to lower blood pressure. At your dose (25mg) which is what I was on, is to usually help with palpitations and/or anxiety. This is a low dose. If anything, periodically check your blood pressure and if you see it getting low call the doctor and he will probably have you cut the dose in half. Also, if you begin feeling lightheaded or dizzy then you know that your blood pressure is dropping. However I highly doubt this will happen unless you are super sensitive to medication. As I said, when atenolol is used to lower blood pressure its recommended dose is a lot higher than 25mg. Also, atenolol is a very safe drug. Its one of the oldest drugs on the market and the most understood. You should feel very safe when taking atenolol. Its a lot different than drugs like antidepressants which haven't been around as long and the long term effects are unknown. I would be more scared to take those then a beta blocker.
A stress test is a test to check how your heart functions under stress. The doctor will make you get on a treadmill to increase your heartrate. If its abnormal then they will order further testing.
HOpe this helps!

I took atenolol for a long time to get my hyperthyroid symptoms under control.  Eventually, my heart rate was at 40 bpm so my doc told me to discontinue it, but now I'll take it occasionally as needed for palpitations.  It is very safe.  It has a very similar mechanism to propanolol.
