Can an aortic aneurysm suddenly grow larger due to an injury, like a hard fall onto the abdomen? Last year my husband's was a 4.8 and following a very hard fall on his abdomen, two weeks ago, (while out of town),  he had a CT scan  back home(his annual checkup) and it was a 5.0. I mentioned to the doctor that he'd had a hard fall and his comment was, 'you don't want to fall on your stomach'. I thought about it later and wondered if that was because it could cause it to grow, or if he meant it could burst?

It's not large enough to be in danger of bursting though, so was just wondering if anyone has had theirs grow due to an injury or knows if this could happen? thanks

Also, my husband has been told by the radiologist (out of town) that a 'nodule' was found on both lungs===5mm in size. The report was sent to us just yesterday. He now has an appt. to have a CT scan of his lungs. I'm wondering how big is 5mm and any other info or comment anyone might have. Thanks

Yanksgirl,

My doctor told me that I shouldn't do anything that would put any extra pressure on my aneurysms. The aorta is already weakened because of the bulge and you don't want to weaken it any further.

5mm is pretty small. There are 25.4 mm in an inch so 5 mm equals about .04 inches. Pretty small.

Hope everything works out for you guys.

Thanks--I'm told by another person the same thing you said about the size of the nodule---saying it was the size of an eraser head on a pencil.

So, it sounds like his fall could have 'upped' the size of the aneurysm doesn't it?

Yanksgirl,

I can't say one way or another as to whether the fall had anything to do with the enlargement. I could be alot of things. The thing is that he gets checked out on a regular basis, which he does. I have CT scans done twice a year along with echos for my bum heart and lots of blood work for drug side effects. All in all a small price to pay for some peace of mind.

Take it easy.
