Can anyone tell me what was involved in this procedure? Were you given a sedative or relaxant (Valium et al) - in addition to the local anesthetic where the sheath was placed? If not, why not? Do you know of any reason that a sedative/relaxant would not be given to a patient undergoing this procedure?

hi ahr8tch, Im sorry it took so long to reply to your post I dont come here as much as I used to . I wanted to tell you that I have had 8 caths done. They do give you a relaxant medicine. I dont know of any reason why they wouldnt give you a sedative, unless it is medically necessary. I dont know what exactly you wanted to know but I can tell you as much as I know. They go through the groin area to insert a tube to look at your heart and arterys. You have to keep your leg straight for about 6hrs. It takes about one week to recover. If you have any questions I would be glad to try to answer them if i can. Good Luck to You!

It is not a scarry as it sounds. I just told them to knock me out, the did, placed 4 stents, and angioplasty. Scarred me to death when I first found out what they would do, but now no biggie.........
